| DUDE thats AWESOME! 1 question... Are you afraid of dropping any of your gear that far out? I want to fish the bait balls I see from the beach but I would be scared of loosing my stuff. |

| Nice king. I really didn't think you would get him in the hold. One more testament for those kayaks. |

| that's some fish - my best on a fly rod is 44", and it was a lot of work lifting it at the end. |

Thanks. That's always a tricky question to answer. Many guys use leashes and I don't blame them. I just like to keep things clean and out of my way for safety reasons. I've never lost a rod fighting a fish, but that's not to say I haven't seen someone make that mistake lol. We have this saying leash it or loose it, and this is especially important during surf entry, although my past few kayak have come with internal fish and rod storage capabilities so I just find leashing not essential at the moment.
Of course now that I've said all this, I'll probably loose a rod now and be rocking leashes in the near future lol _________________ http://www.youtube.com/NextLevelFishingTV

bro, it was just a question of hitting blackwater bobbing off the SP jetties in November. Could see the sand 25' down - smack schools rolling up and down the whole water column, and kings milling around in small groups.
Persistence and paying your dues.
The kings will sip a slow-crawled fly just a few feet below the boat. Of course, everything gets crazy then - they'll run a couple of hundred yards, and they sound when you get them near the boat.
The smacks are more fishing work, long casts, countdown sink to mid-column, and double-handed chernobyl strips (with the rod under your armpit).
But that same day we were getting smacks over 30" - biggest I've ever seen.
Smacks hit like a freight train, but play out quickly.
We got some big suspended snapper (and many blues) on a platform (spring off Port O) fishing 30-40' down, counting down a TS-350 sinking line, something like 25 seconds before stripping. |
