Law Enforcement Officers at Padre Island National Seashore will be conducting a Sobriety Checkpoint as part of their high-visibility enforcement campaign on Saturday, June 23, 2018 on Park Road 22 near the Malaquite Visitor Center. This checkpoint will support the continued detection and deterrence of alcohol and/or drug impaired driving and will contribute to a safe park experience for all visitors on this busy summer weekend.
The National Park Service recommends these safe alternatives to drinking and driving.
If you will be drinking, plan on not driving. Plan your safe ride home before you start the party. Designate a sober driver ahead of time.
If you drink, do not drive for any reason. Call a taxi, phone a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation. Consider downloading the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's "SaferRide" mobile app which helps you identify your location & call a taxi or friend to pick you up.
If someone you know has been drinking, do not let that person get behind the wheel. Take their keys and help them arrange a sober ride home.
If you see an impaired driver on the road, contact local law enforcement. Your actions could help save someone's life. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

I started to fire off the obligatory "Checkpoints are not Constitutional in Texas; See Holt v. State 887 S.W.2d 16 (1994)", but then read that the checkpoint would be set up within the Seashore, and as such, not involving State Police.......
So Yea, DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE!!! You Go, Ranger Rick |

Drinking would interfere with my fishing - and I need all the concentration I can muster. _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |

If you have to get drunk to enjoy fishing, are you a fisherman or a drunk? _________________ Take it outside! |

I would say many are one in the same.
This is why I don't like to drink when I'm fishing alone or am the responsible driving party. But if I'm with someone else, I will definitely cut loose if I don't have to drive. "Drunk" is a subjective term - I don't like to get to that point if I'm fishing because as Donnie said, I too will lose focus. But "buzzed" while fishing, on the other hand...That can be a great trip!
And if I'm camping, forget about it! We're going to put a case away easy, maybe two. _________________ All things will pass. Have a Blessed day. |

A guy got stopped about a hundred yards north of me last evening. They had him doing all kinds of things - dui tests, etc. Then , when I figured he was going to jail - another park ranger showed up - and the 3 rangers all conferred - with the guy, then to my surprise. The rangers drove away. My wife saw them get in his face and point at the truck - and then point at the dunes - he pulled almost into the dunes when they stopped him.
I watched him off and on as I had a joyful time catching hardheads. He walked way down the beach - to the north and then came back, and stood by his vehicle. Thinking maybe he was shaking it all off and might need some help, i went over and talked to him, asked him if was ok and needed anything. He said, no, that they did not arrest him or write him up but they told him to leave the truck right where he was (what my wife saw the rangers pointing at the truck and the dunes was probably going on ) - for an hour, and for him to walk it off .... . They were going to come back and check on him in an hour, and if he was ok, they were going to let him go.
I said, you are lucky, pal, becareful, and he thanked me for checking on him. I left then, but hopefully he got to spend the night at home and didnt do anything else stupid. _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |
