First of all, I would like to say hello my names Mike. I have been creeping around this website a while. Learning and taking notes so thank you all very much for all the info. I move down to corpus about a year ago and have been hitting the water a lot. Originally from the Midwest moved for work and family.
I have done a lot of research about shark fishing from the beach and put in a lot of time. Got all the proper gear looked up baits and how to present them where to drop them. Once again lots of thanks to you guys! Now how all this work and research paid off! |

I got tires on the sand at 6:30 and was parked at my spot on the beach by 7:00. Rods in holders and started running out frozen baits first thing as the sun peeked over the horizon. I put out one large piece of frozen ray on a penn squall 50vsw and a large frozen whiting on Okuma 50w. Left my dad on the beach and took a light spinning rod with a shallow diving jerk bait and went out on the yak in the second gut and play around. First cast got a nice sized lady fish decided to use the whole thing for bait and ran it out way way past the third bar on the 9/0. Not even an hour later and my clicker was peeling off on the 9/0 took about 30 mins to get it up to the first sand bar where I could see its fins poking through the water. My father ran out grabbed the leader brought it into about 2-4 inches of water. 6 foot hammer! Very cool we only snapped a few pictures because we wanted to make sure it was released.

That's a great first shark for sure! Good job! _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back. |
