| What type of gear are you going to use? Rod, reel, line test? That would help determine the bait and leader setup that would be best for you. |

STOP AT ROYS ON THE WAY IN THEY SELL PRE RIGED CABLE LEADERS IN DIFFERENT SIZES , DEPENDING ON WHAT SIZE OF SHARK YOUR AFTER?JUST ASK THE ATTENDENT FOR ADVICE ON HOOK SIZES. USE FRESH CUT MULLET FOR REDS THATS YOUR BEST BET FOR BAIT. THIER IS ALOT OF WEED IN THE WATER RIGHT NOW SO HAVE A BACK UP PLAN
TO FISH THE JETTIES IF THIERS TO MUCH WEED IN WATER,OR IN BACK OF YARBROUGH PASS IF ACCESSIBLE.SHARK BAIT CAN BE MULLET,SKIPJACK,STINGRAY, WHITING ANYTHING BUT A GAME FISH.DONT FORGET THIERS BOBHALL PIER WHICH YOU CAN GET AWAY
FROM MOST OF THE WEED THATS UP CLOSE,JUST KEEP ALL GEAR LOCKED UP THAT IS LEFT BEHIND ON THE PARKING LOT. THATS ANY WHERE! THERE WAS SOME FINGER MULLET IN THE SURF ON 5-2-06 IN BUNCHES, ME AND A FRIEND LIMITTED ON REDS THAT DAY, SO GOOD LUCK HOPED IT HELPED A LITTLE. "TERMINATOR" |

| i have an okuma diezel big water combo with about 400 yds of 40# line. my budy has a penn 114h with 350 yds of 50# line. we are thinking about buying longer rods due to the seaweed. by chance does roys have xtra long rod holders, just curious. |

Don't waste your money on premade rod holders. Go to Home Depot or Lowes and get some 10' 1 and half inch PVC or larger for your larger rods. Cut them in half and then angle one of the ends so it is pointed. I also use a "creature catcher" to suck the sand out, then insert the rod holder. I usually go down about 18"...not much is going to pull that out.
See ya on the sand,

diceman,
I have been going down every weekend for five weeks now. From what I have seen, (i am not a shark fisherman (yet)), the weed has been really bad. I went to fish pass a couple of weeks ago and it was thick beyond belief. I have seen some nice reds caught up close (wade gut). Bob Hall is also a good chice to avoid the weed. I have not seen or read many reports about PINS since the weed set in. |
