I was really itching to get out on the water since coming back to CC on Saturday. Around 10:30 or so today the sun peeked out and I just couldn't resist. Grabbed my rods and jump in the boat. Went out to the three minute honey hole and by time I got there rains are coming. Good thing I had my rain gear in my boat. Made several drifts and was throwing Tequila Gold sand eel, what else, and the bite was pretty steady. The title doesn't refer to the time I went out nor the time I got back. It was the number of non keeper trout I caught before I got my first keeper. This is the 19 inch trout that I caught. I know not much of a picture but oh well.

After catching this keeper I caught another six fish before my second keeper and then after the next 10 dinks I decided that was about it because it was time for lunch and I was getting hungry. It was fun being out on the water again today. Although I might have to go back to New Mexico to find some better fishing weather LOL

Well, welcome back Tom. And nice fresh fish dinner. Weather has been sketchy for a quite a while, fronts like every couple days, small windows of decent days. But looks like water temps are finally back up, hope it lasts. Haven't been in a while myself, needed someone to get out and show us there's fish to be had, get some motivation going. Glad you're back on the job.

It's supposed to rain pretty good tomorrow. And then taper off Thursday and Friday and then rain pretty good again the weekend just in time for the Barefoot Mardi Gras.

By the way, the bite is very soft. Fish low and slow and when you think you might have grass on your line set your hook. It's often times a trout

I can certainly relate to that kind of ratio.
Glad you & Mary returned safely

Similar results for me Sunday, based on my sampling the juvenile trout survived the cold very well.

I thought all those 14inchers in would have grown up in the time that I was gone.

How deep was it where you were fishing? Remember a post somewhere last year about Emmords where they said dinks were in the deeper water and better fish were more in the grass adjacent to gut.

Hey Darrell I started in about 2 ft drifted through a hole that was 4 then through a channel then back up into the flats. Results were the same everywhere.

Well, guess that kind of covers most the scenarios. Maybe all those dinks were really solid fish still suffering from the 'cold water shrinkage effect'?

The bigger ones are still there. Just seem to shut off from the super blue bloody moon. The little ones can't stop eating. Had some nice catches of reds and trout before the full moon. Have not gotten any in
four trips since. On the other hand, there are bazillion drum.
