My wife and I have been regulars reading the posts on this site since it started. We lived in Corpus Christi for many years and are now in Bulverde north of SA.

We can usually be found down there every few weeks fishing from the Bob Hall Pier or down the beach a few miles. We have also fished in California, Virginia, and Hawaii. Salt water only for us.

welcome to Bulverde - great flyfishing nearby

the Guadalupe tailwater is 20 min away, and in the other direction, all the Center Point crossings are killer.

Great warmwater fishing as close as 4 mi away, this endemic bass hen came from below Mueller falls, upstream from Rebecca's Creek

Cibolo Creek (Boerne) has an A-strain of endemic Guadalupe bass. What most people don't know is from the tractor museum down to the bottom of the Nature Center, both banks are public. Between Boerne and Bulverde, though, Cibolo disappears into the aquifer, and re-emerges near Schertz.

Boerne City Lake is also a great place to paddle a kayak.

and it sits so high, it always has whatever wind is blowing at the coast.

Hope the proposed development on the Boerne gets shot down The runoff would have a negative effect .

Seems those mid-length mid-line-weight glass rods from the 70s (Phllipson, Fenwick) are about perfect for most of our hill country tight spaces.
When I took Kevin Townsend fishing for endemic bass filming an episode of KT Diaries ("True Texas Bass"), he fished my 7'7" Fisher-built SA System 5 glass, which is the rod with the white bass in my photos above.

There was a good edit from this run and cypress tunnel in the show.

here's the confluence of the Guadalupe forks at Hunt

and a red ear hen I caught about 20 yds down from where Alex is fishing - twice when this fish broached, I thought it was a stumpy largemouth.

The south Texas scrub has some killer fishing, too, west on Hwy 90 from San Antonio, then either north into the hill country, or south into the scrub. From Verde Creek west to the Nueces, all the rivers disappear into the aquifer and re-emerge in the coastal plain to the south.
This is Seco Creek in the hill country well north of Hwy 90

Here's the blue hole where the Sabinal re-emerges about a half-mile above its confluence with the Frio.
There are 5 bass sitting against the bank on the shelf above the blue hole - yes, great sight-fishing here.

my favorite fish story from the Pedernales headwaters near Tivydale.
I was standing in the current and sight-fishing a 4-lb bass in a still oxbow.
The bass was strolling behind my fly, I guess not making his ambush too obvious. This massive yellow-belly dashed out from the bank and grabbed the fly. The whole time I'm fighting the yellow-belly, so is the bass. When I was handling the sunfish, the bass sat down at my feet. I released the sunfish, daubed the fly (jigged it straight down at my feet), and caught the bass.

second favorite is a 30-lb black buffalo I hooked at Pfeister Rd. crossing, while fishing a cane fly rod. The fish made two trips into the backing, porpoising the entire time, and I wasn't disappointed when it came unhooked - it was a roller-coaster ride, as good as a comparable-sized jack.

Not from Bulverde but lived there from 1998 until 2010 when the wife and I returned to our native hometown of Corpus Christi. Still regret ever leaving the Hill country but love the coast. We lived less then 20 minutes from Canyon Lake and 20 minutes from most fishable waters of the Guadalupe.

nice thing, from here, the coast at its closest is still only a 2-hour run.
We had two really nice trips this fall - a long weekend at Estes in October, and 4 days at Arroyo in November.
Here, we were launching at 4:30 and home with redfish dinner for four at 6

We moved from Corpus Christi to Bulverde 24 years ago. I've fished a lot of the same waters as Bulldog1935 over the years and it is challenging and fun. The hill country is beautiful. However, my heart is still at the coast. Nothing compares to the fight that saltwater fish put up and you never know what kind of game fish is stalking the surf, flats, jetties, piers, or offshore. The variety is amazing. I guess I truly am an oldsalty. Can't wait for a warm spell. Trout should be in the deep channels and canals.

we'll be making a spring kayak trip...
My daughter is making a senior-year UIL wrestling state championship bid, which keeps us completely occupied through March, so I'm not even fishing the cold water this winter, but that will change next year.
