This will be year six as a winter Texan on NPI.
I have not brought my fly rod with me, but I am wondering about the times on packery jetty when sheepshead are schooling. I see folks at the end doing combat fishing and fighting snags. But they catch fish.
What are your thoughts about a nymph set up? Fly that imatates a ghost shrimp?
TIA

I've sight-casted down to a size 6 fly at sheepies on the jetty and have yet to convince one to eat.

I know it happens though.

If i were to go and try during the winter, I'd downsize the fly even more. Use a good hook though. Tiemco or something...

good luck

EDIT: I don't know what your situation is, but if you have means to a boat or kayak, try to get yourself behind the national seashore on the flats. put in at bird island and head south. fly cast to reds and black drum all day on the right day.....may even see a big girl swim by...
