Wave forecasts for Saturday PM and Sunday are 1-2 feet, which would normally warrant looking for pomps then. However, anyone could easily predict every pinch and point on PINS to have been taken by now by camps for Sharkathon. Best hope for a similar calm period a few days after the frontal passage next week.

Kudos to Tyler for getting me back on the board, and to Blue Streak Fabrication for installing what some say is the first rod rack seen locally on a Subaru. Look for the rack on a white 2016 Forester. My 2004 Blazer and its rod rack were totaled in June 2015. The replacement SUV was paid for by 1/3 of the insurance companies' settlements after Medicare and my lawyer took their shares.

Hope to begin making pomp reports again next week after a 3-year hiatus.

I was wondering where the Trash Heap sauntered off to?

Welcome Home.

Didn't saunter off. Was extricated through what remained of my windshield, stuck in a neck brace and carted away by ambulance. MRI later found 5 herniated cervical discs. Never saw the other car which rolled mine.

Welcome back. Did they install hardware on your neck? I would assume they did. Good luck and good fishing.

Yes, we traded the 4 banger Jeep in for a 2014 Forester!

How do you like the Forester ? My wife drives a 2016 legacy sedan, it stays nice (i.e. I dont drive it) and I have the 2014 outback. We like the awd in subies, the gas mileage and so much common sense in their construction.

I like the Forester. It drives great though I am not sure how well it does on the sand but if you do youtube searches those Subies will surprise you in the stuff they can run in.

I drove through the worst blizzard of my life , december 1987, carrying my wife and 6 month old baby in 84 subie outback. Did not know what I was doing driving in that snow and ice but the outback got me through it.

Been in pretty mushy sand on pins , it just climbs on through. Seems like maybe it stays on top better ? dont really know - I am still used to driving z71 4wd and suburban 4wd out there , so getting used to the small vehicle now. Would love to get a bumper guard type of thing so I could put rod racks on this thing. Saw the info about the sponsor - will certainly consider them as I look around.

Not yet. Transient episodes of numbness in my hands and grating when I turned my head are what led months later to the MRI, but surgeon said wait and see. Thanks for the good wishes.

Was hoping you'd tested your 2014 Forester there. Was the lack of a rod rack what held you back? The 2016 does very well along West Texas senderos on rock hunts, and even made it across the aptly-named Calamity Creek. Scary good gas mileage out west on the good roads, topping 30mpg sometimes.

Can't recall, if I ever knew, how to insert pix on this board, so I posted them on FB and emailed them to Tyler. Sorry, I rarely add friends anymore; Tyler and Nick were the last ones I did.

I saw the pictures over there, if you dont mind telling, what did it cost you for that rack and the installation.

Not at all. $500, plus $41.25 tax. To have added fabrication and installation of a receiver between the SUV and the rack would have added at least $200 to the cost, and greatly increased the stress on the whole structure.
