Why kocktail? Because cocktail is a terrible name for a drink.
Though Summer is officially over, we still have many warm days ahead of us. At the end of these days, a cold mixed drink sure is nice.
So awhile back, a friend of mine which we often gift each other different kinds of beers, once gave me the ingredients for his favorite mixed drink; beer and tomato juice. Sadly, his beer of choice is Keystone Light. Not a whole lot going on there taste-wise.
So I thought to myself, "What can I do to bring some flavor to this?"
After a bit of *ahem* research, I found a suitable replacement.
Karbach's Lemon and Ginger Radler. While this is my favorite choice, if you prefer something more tart, a Berliner Weisse or Gose style will also work but PLEASE, no lite beers. (Okay, Bud Light Lime could work in a pinch.)
The same applies to the juice. V8 or Clamato (my favorite) also works well.
To bring another dimension, I add fresh basil to the flavor profile.
The ingredients:
Beer
Juice
Basil
Ice
Directions:
In a large glass, place several basil leaves into it and crush them with a muddling stick, the round handle end of a kitchen utensil or the back of a spoon.
Then, pour some beer into the glass to allow the bubbles to effervesce the oils out of the basil leaves. Then pour in some juice. The ratios are a matter of personal taste. I prefer around two parts beer to one part of juice.
The basil leaves can be left in or removed with a fork.
Give it a few stirs, add ice to fill the glass and maybe a straw.
Kick back and enjoy.

Thanks Tyler! Yes, it is very similar.
While micheladas are delicious, there are so many ingredients the beer is basically irrelevant. I wanted something where the beer could bring its own flavor and character to the drink. Plus, this is a much simpler recipe.
Though some Sal Y Limon or Treches rimming the glass would be nice. _________________ "Money will buy you a fine dog, but only love can make him wag his tail." - Kinky Friedman

Another "Beer Mixer" is "grapefruit juice and beer".
Pourthe GFJ in a glass first. Fill the glass no more the 1/4 full.
Add your favorite beer & ice the stir.
Find this to be a very refreshing drink.
Caution - Do Not try this with OJ....tastes terrible. _________________ "I do hunt and I do fish and I do not apologize to anyone that I hunt and fish." - Norman Schwarzkopf |
