|
|
Not much going on in the forum lately, so let me get some kind of fishing conversation going.
Ladyfish (skipjack) is well known as an oustanding cut bait. In addition to mullet, I would like to target redfish using these baits in the coming weeks. What in your opinions is the lure that just seems to catch more ladyfish than any other in your experiences. Thanks. |

| Another vote for silver spoons, go a little on the smallish side. Kastmasters work great. Use a bit of wire and attach a small swivel to the spoon itself. |

Anything flashy. I've also had luck with speck rigs, and small rattle traps. _________________ Shane |

Thanks for the advice. I am off shortly to go and try to catch a few this evening. I have in my arsenal both small spoons and a couple of small Rattletraps. I am going to go after some redfish tomorrow at Packery, and will put out a couple of rods one with live mullet and one with hopefully a big chunk of cut ladyfish. I will post a report. |

little pricey, but I had a fun few hrs yrs back w/live shrimp, weighted popping cork and a cheap zebco spincast in green surf...
they flew out on the hook-up and the little combo was very sporting on 15-18in'ers _________________ the creepy uncle that scares the kids.... |

| Chartreuse and white bead chain eye Clouser on 4 or 6 hook. Every time I throw at a tailing red, there is a 50:50 chance a skipjack will grab it! |

Cripes...... I've had many a day and night fishing for reds using 2-3" live pinfish where Ladyfish wouldn't leave the bait alone long enough for a red to come by!
They have HUGE mouths for their body size, so.... _________________ Dave

| We did not need any cut bait today fishing SBH, as we were able to get plenty of live mullet by cast net in the wade gut. One of the fish we caught on a live mullet was, you guessed it, a ladyfish, and a very large one at that. I did try to catch some ladyfish early this morning on a Rattle Trap, but the weeds and trash in the water were so bad that anything other than a topwater got fouled every cast. I am planning on posting a fishing report later this evening, with a photo of the catch, as we had a good morning of fishing. |
