| Do we expect to have higher tides than usual here on Saturday the 9th because of Katia or Irma ? I want to take my granddaughter out saturday afternoon down PINS and fish - and dont want to scare her. |

My 2 cents : Skip it. Coastal Flood Advisory up, the water is brown and churned up (=no swimming), very little drive-able area to maneuver around. Wouldn't be surprised to see PINS shutting down due to the elevated tides.
Next time for her... |

I am tempted to sneak out and try fishing ( i live over in the annaville area) - casting some plugs for a bit, but from what you say, maybe not worth the 30 mile drive to pins. And many thanks for your 2 cents. I assume you are on the island or FB ?

Was planning on heading down there with my dad Sunday try Tuesday for a 3 day fishing trip way down PINS. Had this planned for 4 months. Now with the hurricane effects we are looking at other options. Surf forecast and Magicseaweed show calm waters beginning Wednesday. _________________ wishin i was fishin! |

Redfin21, you gettin the idea that maybe the reason no one is answering, is they are all out there slaying the reds out on pins.

I'm not going to load up - but I have to run into Roy's Bait and tackle - but I am going to tuck my lure chunking rig in the back of the subie, you know, just in case. You never know when an emergency would come up - and there could be reds everywhere. Be prepared. I was a good Scout.

I'm going to be watching conditions every hour throughout the day till I have a final determination whether my 70 yr old dad and I will be heading that way Sunday morning. _________________ wishin i was fishin! |

RF, I live in nw corpus , hundred yards or so from I37 and Violet road, 31 miles from my drive way to the sand on PINS. No big deal for me to make a run out there, for you, I would wait till later in the week, the storms are going to churn stuff up, in the gulf.

Red fin, give it a rest, drove to Roys to get some gear and then took a quick drive out to pins, only went a couple hundred yards. Ran into a couple of hard cores - and they said 'forget it - the further south you get the worse it gets' Water was about 15 yards from the dunes, dont know what tide it was. Waves were too high and rough for this gimp, cast about 25-30 times, nada. So will focus on my work, and wait for the middle of the week. RF - wait - dont come now. Thats my advice.

My 2 cents.... That's why I threw it out there. Not my very first rodeo.
And, yea, I live in the Bluff. [And I was born on NAS, when that hospital, which is long gone, occupied the space of the front 9 for the Golf Course, by what used to be the old Coast Guard Officers Quarters...... and the second pool, but those skinny-dipping stories are for another day.]
I spend an unreal amount of time on the sand. Hope you didn't scare the granddaughter.... It would have been nasty down PINS.

I went by myself, I had to run over to Roy's , looking for some kastmasters, and some leader making supplies, and I thought, hey I am this close, so I took off and got over to pins about 11 30 or so, talk to some hard core fisherman (big wheel truck , rod holders punched out all over, etc.) and they said, 'forget it, it gets worse the further south you go, hard heads, etc.' I went and threw a spoon for a half hour, the water, i think it was close to high tide anyway, was pushing what little driving space we had. Didnt get a bump, but I did see what I think was mullet or skip jack so there was something out there. The water wasnt terrible - probably a 3 on a 10 scale of clear. A couple was fishing right off the pavement and the lady was excited about some good whiting she caught, but all i had were the kastmasters i had just bought and an old shimano spinner that generally stays in my subie. Headed home and was cleaning up old fishing stuff from my pre-coaching, pre-accident days, and found two long rods I had been missing - so it was a good day - the long rods are two piece , so not the best but will help me put the baits out there while wait for Nick to have a sale on his rods (jk).
