Got down to corpus at about 4:00 pm and stopped to get some bait. Hit BHP form about 5-12. couple of dink trouts and ladyfish, nothing of interest. Of note there was guys throwing castnets all over right next to my line. I started to get upset but held my temper. Just like you guys said there was people literaly camping out on the peir with 10-15 rods a peice. That and a damn kayak kept running through our lines on his way out to the end. I would have to say as my first time going there that I will def not go back.
Thursday morning got up at 5 and headed over to Crabman marina for an 8 hour trip on the adventurer. went out about 30 miles. Captain and deckhand were really good guys, and the put us on the fish pretty quick. limited out on red snapper (not real hard at 2), 15 vermillion snapper and a couple of trigerfish. Wish we could have done some drifting, but that is ok maybe next time. After we got back headed to rockport to clean fish and see my family. Decided to go down to Copano Bridge for a little while and fart around. Stopped at a bait stand in rockport and man that was dissappointing. Every single one of them was owned by Vietnamese that could barely speak english. Pretty sad I remember when my uncle owned Capt Cadys and it was a very nice area. Headed to the bridge, picked up one 17" trout and a whole lot of hard heads, so we called it a night.
Friday morning got up early and headed out to meet FLOATING CABIN at Bird Island Basin. Took off to go out to his cabin with him and one of his buddies. Got out there and messed around for a little bit and got unpacked. Headed into the hole friday afternoon for some drifting. Picked up 3 good size trout and a black drum, Reds were not around. headed back to the cabin for some dinner and some night fishing. Once the lights kicked on and the sun went down the trout picked up pretty fast. We were catching about 15 to 1 keeper, with most of the keepers later on in the night. Saturday got up and decided to hit the king ranch shoreline and try to pick up some reds. put about 5 trout in the box and caught some undersize reds. headed back for some more nightfishing.
picked up some more trout and called it a night. ended up with about 45 trout in the boox and 1 black drum. All in all it was a good vacation. Thanks FLOATING CABIN for a great trip, and anyone needing a weekend away I would def reccomend his cabin that he rents out. _________________ Broke off again. |
