Guys, what is the stuff growing pretty much at the water's edge - we were moving around middle of the tide movement and at spots along pins, we saw some almost algae looking stuff growing out of the sand. I say almost because it looked like a real little plant coming out of the sand.
We would see it for a mile or two then nada, then go for a few miles and see it again.

It comes out of the mature cocina clams. Becky showed me last trip that in fact it grows out the end. I never really noticed it until seeing that algae in the wet sand from the 15 to the 18.

yeah, been a while since I've seen that....the plant is Ulva, the same "sea lettuce" that grows on the jetties....

the evil "organism-that-shalt-not-be-named" had been wiping out the coquina about every other year it seemed, so we never had a good crop of them that got to be such a ripe old age of 2 years old....LOL

I refuse to mention it's name under penalty of being flogged by Central Scrutinzer and others....

Careful Becky, someone might slip a banana in your boat.
Very Happy

No harm, no foul, up to this point for not mentioning any 'names'.

The algae has been quite good this year. Started noticing long filaments down around Little Shell a few weeks ago, and now even the surf around Fish Pass has some impressive 'strands'. I saw the tightest bunch of coquina clams EVER this pm north of Fish Pass! It looked like a honeycomb, with no space between any clam and it's neighbor! Every 15 yards or so was like that. Really impressive.

That algae does indeed attach to the most mature shells, as well as any left-over 'spines' of dead sea whips (which I found quite a few).

As far as the 'organism that shall not be named', I've had a nagging bad feeling, with all of the Saharan Dust blowing around, and the 'plethora' of bleached seagrass pieces washing up (not to mention the tar balls that showed up, like clock-work at the end of July Rolling Eyes [All you tree huggers, it's a natural thing.... There is no well in the Gulf 'GUSHING' oil])...... But I checked the Blucher Institute temp record off Bob Hall, and it's holding steady so far....

Fingers crossed. No 'Rojo Lunar Water Movement' this year... October will tell, but the surf was nice today.

Lots of tar and white seagrass pieces all over south of Bob Hall. Classic signs of cooler water headed this way. Just keep it to a refreshing bath, and skip all of the theatrics late in the season............ Cool

This is from today.

Brother in law mentioned tar in water at marker 45 yesterday in front or rather "back" of Cinnamon Shores. I urged him to fish this morning saying our fishing window could close on cold water but he decided to stay in bed. Too much "sun" yesterday. "Sun" meaning adult beverages while on the beach Smile We did manage two keepers last night on He-Dogs. His was the best at 22" and 3.25lbs. Maybe I should have belted a few down before attempting fishing. Must have been his slurred presentation.

So why does tar indicate cold water coming through?
