I upgraded from the tentcot to a generator and A/C.
Didn't take the fly rod out on a flat as planned. It was dead calm glass both mornings and I waited for the wind to pick up before heading out. The bite actually picked up in the afternoon. I did catch some dinky school trout on a fly in the green lights at night.
Brought my snorkel gear out to explore that clear water off the KRS, but again, ran out of time. I need another day or two to do everything I want.
The backlash... well that was a side plate malfunction. The turnkey must not have been completely latched. During the cast the plate opened and line got wrapped around both ends of the spool and down inside the centrifugal breaks. To reel in I used the thumb grips as a line holder. This took a sit down with reading glasses fix.
Lost a keeper flounder at the boat while trying to walk it over to the where I could reach the net. I think I heard a similar flounder story at the recent IMS fish fry.
The check-it stick is mounted on some cedar. An idea I got from some work Shallowsport was showing on this board. It stopped the clanging around in the boat.
Caught a few more keeper trout but only kept the 20 in and a 17, and then there were a bazillion dinks. The 20 came out of a group of grunting males on the edge of a grassline. I camped on the spot searching methodically and finally she hit out deeper over sand. Caught three reds total, two of them keepers and rounded out with some trash fish. Even got slimed by Mr. Whiskers.
And thanks for the well wishes for my work day as I write this at lunch and then back to the grind. |
