My wife and I are looking into buying a small camp trailer for us and our 2 dogs. We are looking for input on a few thinks. We know the salt and sand will eat everything and can double maintenance and we are ok with that, being I do all that myself. We are wondering if slide outs are a big problem? Do they break often with the sand? Do they leak sand and water? We think we are going for solid fiberglass sides instead of aluminum siding because all the gaps and openings can collect salt and sand. Are we right?
I plan on getting a single axle so I can lift it easier for a little bigger tire.
Also any heads up on look out for this or that would be appreciated. |

| The blowing sand is what will mess things up. It's really a fine sand and it finds its way into everything. I would keep my truck door open too much and the sand got into the electric window switches. Not hard to fix, just a hassle. Bottom line, I would get something very simple. Try Funtime RV in Cleburne, they usually have cheap new ones. |

I would try one of those 4X4 looking versions of the pop up with larger tires heavier gauge stuff, easier to get down down south etc. There was also an interesting A-Frame made out of fiberglass that was around during the Big Shell Cleanup. I think the owner of that is on this forum.
Good Luck!

| We love to camp on the beach in port a . Been doing that for 5 years we camp with a hybrid this is the one with the tent bunks that flip open. We camped in thunderstorms and windstorms never had a problem. Only thing is the undercarriage that is starting to rust now. Lots of sand gets trample in to the camper, but a door mat and a broom takes care of that. The tent bunks let in the ocean sounds at night. The other thing is to get a generator to run your air con and change the batteries. Mine will run through the night on a tank of gas. Grey tank and black tank will go 5 days if you limit the showers. Never had to use my trucks 4 x4 in the sand. Do not over think this thing get a camper that you like and go and camp |
