about 80 people showed up to that scoping meeting last night, seemed like a good turnout.

some bluff rat blew a fuse last night. not sure who he was, just incoherent babbling about failed federal government policies, and maybe tar and feathering? who knows.

. CCA , SEA and RFA all had representation there. Tod Hunter was there. Abel herrera sent a rep.

Louisiana agreed to the 27 day season and this article indicates other gulf states probably will too. I'm just not comfortable taking this "everyone gets a ribbon" from the federal government.

"the king shall grace you with a few more days, but ye shall give up your state water fishery". Then what? they get a foot in the door on forcing regulations in state waters? they're acting like a combination of a bully and a drug dealer, trying to force you into getting hooked onto a program.

then what?

that's the big question I have.

The article link seems to imply that Texas has already signed on to the 27 day plan (Option 1)??? That's news to me?

I encourage the TPWD to reject a Quid Pro Quo exchange for Red Snapper days in Federal waters. The SEDAR assessment of Snapper have been flawed from the start. Giving up state's rights to the Federal Government will encourage further erosion of the Federal Governments responsibility to manage the fishery. Currently the Gulf Coast Council is supporting commercial fishermen at the expense of recreational fishermen. Soon it will be to the exclusion of recreational fishermen. Coastal residents are being forced to surrender their access to their own natural resources so that commercial fishermen can expropriate, exploit, and export Red Snapper for profit to inland dwelling populations across the world.

Those same inland dwelling populations are not required to surrender access to their natural resources so that coastal dwelling residents can enjoy a taste too.

Ha Ha so YOU were the irate Bluffian. Let's see how the "word sensor" describes the interaction.

"You sorry cocktail suckers couldn't find your supple bum with both hands. How can you report such lousy snapper numbers when any richard cranium with half a brain knows the Texas population is HUGE you poo poo heads!

LOL! everyone was fine and behaved like adults....everyone knew that TPWD isn't the bad guy here, and they're working hard to provide some relief...if anything, people (including myself) praised the TPWD for doing such a good job, and our buddy Mark made that public comment that got the biggest applause: TPWD takes management of all species out to 200 nautical miles...

haha. I wasn't too bad, I think the worse thing I said was the extra days were a "crappy consolation prize"

becky was right on, I didn't hear anyone rage against TPW, not even behind the scenes. Almost everyone spoke about not trusting the federal government. (imagine that). It's not only that the states know better, they do more.

what have the feds done to improve the fishery? how often have you seen federal biologists at a ramp anywhere? federal artificial reefs? they might kick in a little money here and there, but for the most part, it's the states combined with private groups that are improving the offshore fisheries.

all the feds do is regulate, and take. The only solution is for them to simply go away.
