Looking for reports. My friend John Baerly went down PINS yesterday and got some nice pomps, reds, and whiting fishing north of the High Banks.

Rockport - Capt. Brent of Ace in the Hole Guide Service has been doing well on reds using cut mullet in the potholes of grass on the flats.

Bob Hall Pier - Slow today with the rain. A 4ft blacktip and gafftop reported.

Packery - a few of the usual suspects were out recently and helped my friend Kesley catch her first snook.

Downtown - Mangrove snapper and flounder caught.

Port Aransas Jetties - trout, redfish, and sheepshead reported.

Remember Snapper season closes at midnight Sat June 3rd.

Laguna - trout on the edges of the grass behind the spoil islands on gulps, croakers etc. Cos at the Cosway said great eating trout being caught early and late on croaker ranging in size from 16 to 20".

Baffin - trout good around the rocks and the usual summertime spots.

Seen some pics of nice ling inshore over the last 2-3 days...kings should be there too.

Friends I talked to that ventured out for THE red ones caught numbers of big fish easily.

Was at Bob Hall pier two nights ago - nothing but small hardhead on fresh (but very small) dead shrimp. Nothing on spoon, nothing on spec rig, nothing on artificial shrimp. Tried cutting a hardhead for bait, nothing hit that either. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I didn't see much else coming over the railing from my vantage point.

Night before that was at Oso Bay turnaround. Some better sized hardheads and a few good hits I wasn't able to capitalize on, but I didn't have fresh bait that night either. Rolling Eyes

My best recent outing was last Friday, on the T-head late night. Current was swift and winds were howling. Again nothing but hardheads on frozen shrimp, but I did manage a really nice sized Gafftop on frozen squid!

Hoping my luck changes next time I go. Either that or maybe I should switch to early mornings. Mad (I'll try different bait before I do that.)

Ya know, the ONLY thing I have ever caught with squid are hard heads. I don't think I've touched it in over ten years. Always brought me bad luck Very Happy

Over the last week, fished Caldwell Pier at night multiple times. The fishing got better the later we fished, often till 2:00am.
Many keeper Speckled Trout on Float and live Shrimp.
Numerous Sand Trout on Float and live Shrimp and also on bottom with squid after 11:00pm.
Big Gafftop also on squid on bottom.
Dead shrimp on bottom produced many Whiting and lots of hardheads.

Weather and winds look good for the rest of the week. Going to go fill my gas cans and ready the boat.

I've snagged some pretty good stuff on FRESH squid in the past - especially in the surf or offshore. I was surprised to land that 16" Gafftop on FROZEN/old stuff though. Speaking of, has anyone ever tried that "non-refrigerated" shrimp/squid/mullet that WalMart has next to the lures? Seems like it's just a half step north of using anchovies or smoked herring. J/W if anyone's ever caught with it. Shocked

That sound exactly like what I've been trying, just not late enough.

Maybe I'll have better luck this week.
