Forgive me if this has been addressed before and I missed it. I Remember my Dad complaining about this in the 70's, someone backing down the ramp, then start getting everything ready for launch, clogging the ramp. Dad always taught me to pull out of the way and get everything ready, then back down, start the motor, unhook the bow eye, launch and then get out of the way. Do y'all think it would help if ramp owner/operators had signs designating a "launch make-ready area"? It's frustrating when you are ready to launch and someone is undoing straps, putting in plugs, loading rods, etc. while on the ramp. I don't say anything as to avoid a confrontation, but it's still maddening. I was just curious if y'all thought it would make a difference.

I don't know if signs would make a difference, but installing missiles and fully automatic 50 calibers on boats might.

LOL, I get it, just don't know if the deck on my 25 yr. old boat would stand up to the recoil of a 50!

Boat ramp etiquette

Your title contains your answer. Etiquette is a lost art these days, whether it be at boat ramps, holding doors open for folks, driving, [I could go on, but you get the point] Confused

even people who think they're being polite, are sometimes the problem. last weekend at bird island there were two trucks in the line that were holding the line up as they were letting ONE boat launch at a time... me and my buddy came around them and started to launch and the guy flipped a little on us about "cutting in line". yeah, we did cut in line, but they were totally unaware of how it was supposed to work there. ain't nobody got no time for that.

Yes Sir, you are correct, at PA ramps you can fit 2 per ramp, one guy backs down on one side as he should, but there's always that one guy that backs right down the middle. But I digress, I just wonder if a "launch make ready area" sign might make a difference. We all know it probably won't, but might be worth a shot.

Ramp rules
1. Prep your boat before getting in line.
2. Back all the way to one side of ramp.
3. TURN OFF YOUR DARN HEADLIGHTS. (And all the stupid 10000 leds)

I try to be patient. Some people are just slower than others. On the other hand there is always some dude that fishes every weekend always has to let everyone know he's the man by flying around and throwing his boat in the water at 30mph.

I haven't moved 30 mph in like never. etiquette and common sense are in short supply with the me first generation.

I like to think I'm the fastest at putting in and getting out at the ramp when it's required. I'll even help someone if they are alone or at least ask if they need a hand. There will always be those that never get it even if they read it. Sometimes the best show in town is at the boat ramp.

Find a 2 holer that's not the popular spot. Avoid Saturdays and holidays. Sometimes early is not better. And if you just have to go when your gut tells you no, then consider it a cost of doing business, get on the water and catch some fish.

I know dat's right Stan..... on the latter, as long as one is NOT trying to launch! Honestly, sitting at a boatramp and watching people brings back some of Bugs Bunny's old quips: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SGD69Q9rz3M

There are a certain % of the population who can't back a trailer, period! It has nothing to do with IQ or books smarts, just common sense and the ability to see cause and effect in action. Then there are those who forget to put the plug in the transom, and instead of just climbing in the boat and doing it, they get hysterical and panicky, yelling at the wife to "Pull out, PULL OUT!!!!", only to have the wife (or buddy) dump the boat on the ramp as it slides off the trailer!!!! Shocked I've SEEN it! Embarassed

Ran into this Friday at Bird Island. We got there after the big rain and in the window before the next gale. My buddy and I had just talked about this. there was one boat tied up and we pulled up high and away to finish loading the boat. We had it all loaded then some guy pulls in literally behind us blocking the boat ramp so he could unload all of his stuff down to that waiting boat. Granted it was pretty heavy stuff but all he had to do was pull over about 30 feet to let us through. Oye!
