No they are not. The small group of hunters/guides which are causing the issue engage in illegal harrassment of the ducks on the flat, run on plane in the canals and waste game, additionally, I dont know how you were raised but my morals in regards to how to treat people extends beyond simply what is illegal or legal.

Running a "guide" service out of a blind facing a big neighborhood, purposefully placed to exploit boat traffic whick keeps the ducks in the air, is a jerk move no matter how you slice it.

To defend the sort of non-sense that is happening on that spoil as hunters rights is BS.

Which is why I disagree with how the issue has been framed, which makes it appear like an anti-hunting issue, which it is not. I think it should have been dealt with in a much more direct manner. However because a few have decided to abuse their "rights", all hunters, the large majority of whom were not an issue, will be affected because the people involved with this have the pull to get things changed.

I'm not even talking about the illegal stuff. Having a license and hunting in the right way is legal. I could care less about idiots chasing ducks , waving their arms, beating on the side of the boat or whatever. It's shows bad sportsmanship and it annoys the ducks. That's a Game wardens job. I don't even waste my time hunting them. Did he actually bring up how I was raised?? Lol lol lol lol.

This would be a good time for you to do some self reflection. Think about your attitude and "check yourself".

Take the emotion out of your diatribe, deal with the facts.

I agree with this....takes no imagination or skill to be THAT kind of guide...

Got to agree. I was wading that shoreline on the ICW side 2 days ago and when walking back to my boat I saw a pile of redhead carcasses that had been filleted right where that guide parks his mini tower boat. I counted 7 redhead carcasses and lots of other duck parts that coyotes and coons already feasted upon.

By the way, I am also a duck hunter and we just finished a great meal with grilled duck breast with wild rice and it was just as good as any steak you can buy. The secret to cooking duck is don't overcook it. If you do it tastes like liver. Cook it right it tastes like a good steak. Smile

Regardless of everything I have read in this thread this still appears to be a group of people who don't like the noise and want the PUBLIC to forfeit their rights to use PUBLIC property for the benefit of this group.

EVERYTHING ELSE IS NOTHING BUT A SMOKE SCREEN!!!!

It seems strange to me that for most of the year the spoil islands are supposed to be off limits so that the birds have a place to do their thing, or at least thats what I have thought. Then when Duck season comes around its game on.

The only problem I have had, and it happened last year, was trying to go out in the Kayak to fish during duck season. A couple of times I just turned around and went back home. All the blinds full of hunters and no way for me to get to any of my normal places without getting to close or paddling way to far.

Legal or not hunting on the inside of those islands facing the homes just would not feel right for me. I could hunt inside some of the cuts or the ICW side but I would not feel comfortable hunting looking at the homes.

I was kidding. You are exactly right! I found that even redhead and scaup isn't bad when you hit it hot on a cast iron skillet and cook to medium rare.

Maybe that's why I ain't a duck hunter. I've always operated with the notion of 'you killed it, you eat it', and if it tastes like poo, then why bother? Surprised

Might have been the preparation method all this time. But then again, 'they' say you can eat Bermuda chub and Jack cravelle too.......

The spoils are off limits February-October because during this time it is nesting season for shorebirds, gulls, etc.

It's purely coincidental that waterfowl season is November-January.

Be sure to leave the skin on and season with salt and pepper. Then brown that side first and add a bit of real butter after you turn them.

Based on the logic of this argument, as Island residency grows and houses move further south, hunters must get out of the way. This is similar to people that complain when you fish their lights in the Chanel's. Heck, while we're at it, boat engines make noise too. We should ban boats from using the intracoastal. Illegal activity is unacceptable and I agree with people when they say that was a job for the game wardens. This rhetoric of stop the hunting because I live here now is a misguided sense of entitlement. This year was the first time I did not duck hunt in about 9 years, but I still support hunter rights. As it stands, the area of availablele hunting moves eve.rytime a new house is built. Now that's not even good enough. If they are doing something illegal, report them. But I know what it's like to be harassed by someone when I'm perfectly within my rights.

I marinate my ducks in a 1/2 and 1/2 mixture of Italian dressing and orange juice for an hour and throw them on the grill. Only a couple if minutes on each side. Great eats!
