a 40 -60 watt bulb down the hole keeps everything dry and warm but not too warm. Dry keeps down the corrosion. The old man always kept a light burning in the engine room on the shrimp boat for that reason. Guess that's why it always started. I was young back then didn't really care but it makes perfect sense nowadays.

Spent weekend on water with my Gulf Coast and steering to left is very unresponsive. Don't fully understand the working of the steering cable etc.....
Turning motor to right all the way it gets tight at farthest point. However when turning all way to left, the steering wheel never gets to a end point or tight. Re-greased everything and it helped but something is slipping or not engauging properly. Any recommendations on a starting point to repair.

Also there were some posts long ago about fuel additives. The guy I bought my boat from praised Yamaha ring free. (Which I have continued religiously) however is there an equilavant that's not priced as high as that liquid gold??

If you have power steering like sea star or bay star you need to bleed the system. If you have teleflex and greasing doesn't fix it ? May be time for a new cable.

I use ring free every now and then but I'm not a fan of the stuff. I'm a Seafoam and a Stabil kinda guy. There are a lot of good fuel additives that don't cost 50 bucks a quart. Look at oil there are a hundred different oils 99% of them all do the same thing. I need to add a can of Seafoam before I go out again. 🎣

Some of the folks I know at the local sailing club keep an old' 100 watt candescent bulb burning inside their boat in the winter. Keeps things from freezing and keeps the humidity down.

Most ironically to the topic; I just ordered a very small, cheap, highly rated dehumidifier from Amazon. I need more than any light can do, and for $45, didn't break the bank. Also a very low power draw. Wink

If it's hydraulic, it may be time for a new valve body, which is located behind the steering wheel. It's rebuildable, but a new one is for sure. About a bill as I remember if SeaStar. The problem I had was I could steer to the right, but the motor wouldn't readily come to the left.

interesting tip. I never thought about it.

I know every couple years I get under my console and clean the mold off everything as it gets absolutely disgusting. I am going to try this out.

Will you share which one and if it works or not?

Tyler, only posting this at the last poster's request.... NOT advertising for Amazon or anyone else!

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000H0ZDD2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I just got this yesterday evening. To check it out, I turned it on, sitting on my kitchen counter. Temp 68, relative humidity 65%. I wanted to see just how quickly it would begin working. Let it run for maybe 45 minutes, and it's almost whisper quiet. In that time, 1-2 teaspoons of water had accumulated in the tank!!! Shocked

This baby is small, and would fit in just about any storage hatch in any boat that I've been in. Wink

Thanks, I took it in today and there is a slow leak( not yet found) they refilled and bled line. Said its 90% better but corrosion was bad. Hinting that better option may be a new replacement. Estimate at $1,000. I struggle to "fix a bowl of cereal" so I'm likely to replace after looking it over and talking with Dennis tomorrow.
