Thinking about buying an older boat to restore that will run shallow.. I've always been curious about the stoner skiffs. Seen some with tunnels and seen some without . Has Anyone experienced this type of boat if so are they any good? Is this a type of hull to consider if I where to find one?

An old Stoner won't have a tunnel from what I remember. However Mr.Stoner builds a great boat. Majek also builds a greater boat that's I have 21ft Red fish Line....

I have the 19' Stoner skiff without a tunnel. Robert built it for me in 1992 and I am on the fourth motor. It will not jump up where a tunnel boat will, but it will run as skinny as I care to. The 19' mold was destroyed a couple of years back, so there are no more to be made. Robert's son, Adam, has a shop on Cline rd in the bluff and has used Stoners from time to time. Give him a call on his cell 361-548-0491. Very nice guy and he will treat you right. I still have my boat because I love it. Its a flat bottom and is not a good rough water boat, but neither is any other flat bottom. Good luck in your search

Captnoegarza has one and it's bad a$$. Super dry boat with plenty of room that will go skinny. Its a work horse that I wouldn't mind owning. The name ain't so bad either

Nothing looks better than a Vannoy or a Stoner zipping across the Lagoon on a calm morning. They were made for running shallow and hauling a big load of Redfish, Trout, and Drum and a load of gill nets, many of them had the famous "hidey hole" under the deck. Most ran in the dead of night when its very cold and often out running the Game Warden in a game of chase.

I think Robert still has the 22 mold. I believe the 16 mold was thrown out too because it rotted away. I have a 16 with an old school 140 crossflow on it. It flies and I love it. Had it 15 years now. As a matter of fact I just put new stringers in it this year

My Dad had a 22' Stoner when I was just a kid. I cut my teeth on that boat.

Guess what, he still has it. Over 30 years. The motor is shot on it, and neither of us lives on the coast so we haven't gotten a new one, but the hull is still sound and the deck is solid.

The "Hidey Hole" is a nice feature as well as the large gas tank in the front box on the console.

I had a 10' Stoner flat bottom for about 10 yrs. It was a great boat, but you definitely needed to slow down in big waves. It was extremely dry running, fast, an I could adjust any load of people or ice chests because it had Bennett hydraulic trim tabs to get up in shallow water. A big gas tank, wide topped rails and a rail around the front. Together we made many a Landcut trip. Maybe some of the older guys remember it, gray with large shark teeth painted on the bow(ala A-10 Warthog planes)to keep from being stopped all the time by the GW's. My wife was mad when I sold it and bought a new 19' Explorer tunnel with not nearly the room or speed that the Stoner had.

Adam does very fine work, be it repair, or building new, you'll be happy with the outcome.

Adam told me that the mold for the 19 skiff was cut up because it was in poor condition and since his dad (Robert) was focusing on the 22" super cat and not really making the 19 skiff anymore, he cut it up and got rid of it. It had been"refurbished" several times throughout the years and was not worth the effort to repair.

I've tried to do research on the super cat but not much came up.. How do they compare vs a shoal water?

The stoner and cat I bet will run side by side. I've been tire kicking the Stoner boat and previously owned a 19' shoalwater. Pricing you will be about $37k for stoner with 150 and for similar size you will be about $50k for a shoal water and mind you a 150 will not push a 23' shoal water the same speed. Stoner said he is seeing 51mph with 150 etech. Andy Hernandez? is a guide running one with a TRP and heard he is getting about 47mph.

My only set back for not pulling the trigger is piecing it out for a full build. Go by and check out one he is working on if not complete by now. Has an elevated console with 175 on back.
