Thinking about hitting the surf Saturday. Hopefully, the water will be decent and manageable. Anybody have any tips for best bait choice this time of year off the beach? I was gonna try finger mullet, shrimp and maybe some blue crab. Thinking about setting up near Port A somewhere

Well if you are feeling adventurous you can head down about 50 miles and hang out with us. Look for a red Sierra with a shark rack and big salt life shark fin on the back window. We are heading out tomorrow at 5 if you are interested.

| I am about to leave home to fish the surf today. I am going to Mustang Island and set up just north of the Fish Pass Jetties. I had a great day last week fishing there. In three hours time I caught a 5.5 lb Trout, a 29" 8 lb Redfish, and a 23 lb Jack Crevalle, all caught on Pony Mullet heads/cut bait, even though I had one rod set out with a live mullet. I plan on fishing longer today. I will try to cast net some Mullet again on the way. Will post a report this evening. |

Great to hear. Looking forward to the report. I will be heading down tomorrow. We're u using fresh pony mullet heads or frozen from bait stand. I always have trouble finding them w my cast net. Fishing the second gut?

I will fish the first and second for sure. The tide is running pretty high, so I doubt I will fish the third. I am taking 4 rods this time. I will probably use fishbites on one to hopefully catch a few whiting or possible drum for the freezer if nothing else.
I managed a handful of mullet throwing my net into Packery channel near the boatramp last week. Today, I am stopping by the old railroad trestle that crosses Oso Bay. I went over there yesterday, and saw a lot of bait in the water right up next to the old road that goes by the water tower. I am going to throw some in there and see what I come up with. |

Try Dimmit pier in the bluff. Caught about 15 big mullet in about an hour there 2 days ago. Lots of pinfish too.
