I know there are several of you who target jacks and tarpon. What weight rods are you using? I'm leaning towards getting a 10wt with 11wt line, just want to make sure I'm not going to end up heartbroken if I get lucky enough to stick a 4-5 ft tarpon.

You're good with a 10. Hucking a 12 all day will wear you out. I'd say just learn how to fight fish by throwing them off balance, and you're golden. Give them their hard runs, and put on the pressure when they slow down. They run left, lay your rod over to the right and apply pressure and vice versa.

I use a 10 and a 12, and I throw the 12 the most. Your 10 wt will be fine though. I stopped overlining my rods last year because I noticed I can cast further if I'm throwing the same wt line that the rod calls for.

Ended up getting a good deal on a 10wt TFO Axiom. I've read that they overline well. Any recommendations on a solid 11wt line for the surf and jetties?
