How do trout react to these spring time fronts? Does it shut them down for a day or so similar to fall/winter fronts?
I would assume the water warms back up much quicker. |

Not so much about water temperature this time of the year, because it doesn't change much after a front. More about barometric pressure.

pre front bite can be fantastic when that pressure drops. high pressure blue bird days following a front can be very slow fishing. this past thursday and friday I had some of the best topwater action I've ever had. from daylight until about 10 am on friday I caught over 50 trout on topwater, avering around 18". Thursday was also good, but not as good as friday. Part of that may have been the pressure.
I wish I knew what it was about pressure that triggers the bite, and shuts it off. pressure changes that we can't sense obviously have an effect on fish, but it's hard to imagine that a 2-5% change in pressure can have the effect it does. |

Going off the Baffin bouy, water temps Friday got up to 79. Right now they are around 62. That's a heck of a difference that you'd think the fish have to react to.
I would guess most fish move to nearby deeper water with stable temps and will be back shallow and hungry as hell come the next day where the surface temps rise above those deeper water temps. |

| I'd bet Tuesday, if you are in the right place and can stand the wind - it may be on like donkey kong. |

That's the fun part about fishing each person can approach each situation with a different way of thinking. Seems every time I think I have it figured out, things change. One thing I did learn about being on the Laguna 50+ years, it's always teaching, I learned a long time ago to take the time and listen and learn.
I'll be out there for a few days this week.

| Anybody keep a fishing journal where they document fish caught under what conditions? Something I have been thinking about starting. |

yep. I started several years ago. some good days line up with ideal weather conditions... some don't. it's good to keep a log for non technical reasons too. who you fished with, etc.
I marked down a couple days ago my 12 year old's biggest topwater trout to date. that's fun stuff to look at. |

Here is an sample of the effect barometric pressure has on fishing. Fishing in the same area and depth of water (3 ft.) for 3 days in Baffin using live shrimp.
Sunday....pressure was 30.38 and steady. 5 trout, 6 redfish, 10 drum
Monday....pressure was 30.96 moving up all day. 1 trout, 2 redfish
Tuesday...pressure was 30.68 moving down. 0 trout 5 redfish, 5 drum.
Toooooooooo much wind for me the rest of the week.

Looking at last nights wind speeds i noticed the presure has been falling fast the last few hours. But with a steady 20-30 winds..
Classic spring day. _________________ Adrift on the Mother Lagoon |

Everytime I get into hot topwater action with trout they are in the 12"-14"
range. If they change the lower length limit to 16" I figure will start catching in the 14"-15" range. _________________ To have a right to do a thing is not at all the same as to be right in doing it. - G.K. Chesterton |
