| Finally getting a chance to put the old boat in the water. I put in down at Labonte and cruise down river. I want to see what experience anyone has fishing the back bay of Nueces and the river. I like targeting redfish. What would your opinions be on it. I e got a 18 shoal water flat that'll get me plenty skinny to muck around back there. Just wanna net bait while coming down the river |

| i normally fish right at the mouth close up to that white float along the inside edge of the bend entering the bay. usually catch lots of reds there tailing, on gold spoons and doa lures. last time there we caught 3 limits. it should also be heating up in the very back also. a friend of mine was there last friday ahead of the front and struck out on the reefs. however the barameter is falling now a should be ok |

| Right on. I figured right at the mouth would be pretty good with bait flushing out. I'm kinda curious how bad the oyster reefs are heading around back between the mouth and there. Are they everywhere and hidden or are they easy enough to spot if you pay attention? |

The reefs start popping up about 2-300 yards from when the river dumps into the bay towards whites point.
Some are marked while others are not. I went in winter on low tide and clear water and was amazed on the amount of reefs. _________________ Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. |

| The reefs can get pretty shallow. Hard to see depending on water clarity |

My experience has been that in the river, the fish tend to run the shoreline, and in the bay, they hold onto the reefs. Lots of structure back there. _________________ "I do hunt and I do fish and I do not apologize to anyone that I hunt and fish." - Norman Schwarzkopf |

YES, there is a railroad bridge that has very low clearence. Seven and a half feet at best. Will not be any tower boatrs going underneath this thing.
Enterance to the bay is a hard left if you go straight at that point you'll be in trouble. _________________ "I do hunt and I do fish and I do not apologize to anyone that I hunt and fish." - Norman Schwarzkopf |

| Well, me and my son are gonna try our luck in the morning. I want to try fishing the mouth and then move on around to the back. I can see on the google earth there are a bunch of canals and channels back there, is that where the city's discharge water goes? Anyways we'll see how it goes. I want to start getting familiar back there |

Not sure what boat your running but once you get out of the main channel it gets skinny. Not sure how tide is right now either. There is a post at end of channel and from that point it's skinny. Definitely have to know where your running if on plain past that point.
I have kayaked that area a bit and only a few deep pockets to stop in. Again - relative to the boat your in.
Good luck. I can imagine the rains from last week may have spawned a hatch of shrimp. _________________ Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. |

| Well we got out there this morning. Didn't put a big dent in the fish population but did get three trout. Wasn't to bad getting around. The little shoalwater 18 flats did just fine everywhere I needed it to. Really just spent time exploring and enjoying the back bay. |
