i have been reading this message board for a long time. almost since it started. i am not a pro fisherman or guide but i am a guy who has the opportunity to get out and fish several times a week. i have been fishing this area since i was a young kid now 56yrs old. sometimes i catch a lot sometimes not. but is always fun. i dont claim to know it all or to be the best fisherman out there but i do try to have the most fun.On this board there used to be many fishing reports, how tos, locations, types of equipment and etc. it was really good for new people, out of town visitors and a good place for regulars to get updates. i never posted anything but always followed. over the years i watched this board go through ups and downs as for as the number of reports and then there was a whole slew of the bellyachers (glad there not too many of them any more) now i see an opportunity to help this board become a great place again and to report everyone's day on the water. but Tyler (who runs a very good message board by the way) and the whole fishing community need for everyone to report what they have done while on the water. don't be like i was and just read...report. we all want to know where the fish are. remember there really are no secret spots because everyone already knows them anyway. if you dont feel like reporting then report to me so i can. if you see a red and white blue wave with Capt D on the front of the console ..it's me..stop and say hi and give me a report. i always launch at either the boat ramps under JFK, bird island or back bay ramp when i go out so please help everyone have a great day on the water and good luck to all

Good words there Capt D

I was chasing the big girls on Saturday. Darn it, I didn't check the internet on what was going on because I ran smack dab into a Baffin tourney Crying or Very sad

Every nook and cranky was covered up. Did pull a 31 inch red off the south shore so I can say I got bent C&R. We got a few keeper trout up to 18 and a 22 inch red perfect eater. There is some gorgeous water in the bay. Bait is everywhere. Brought up a young blue crab in the drift sock. And those little tail-biter perch are present. Last two months I've been throwing gamblers almost exclusively.

Didn't take any pictures so wasn't going to post anything about a lack luster trip. Your words got it out of me . I also bought a new truck in February, still had the paper tags on it when I backed the boat down the ramp. Very Happy

I am off work three days a week, and I will be a lot more serious about surf fishing from now on out. That being said, I will give a report after each trip out, giving all the pertinent info. I am in the process of upgrading my surf tackle. In fact, I just purchased a new Breakaway LDX rod and Daiwa reel that I cannot wait to heave. Going today as soon as I can go.

good points... I actually have been meaning to post my most recent trip, so here goes.

Two weeks ago (2-21). Six big uglies between 34-40" on live crab, ICW (smack in the middle) between just north of Clems and Pure oil channel. All in a few hours. While anchored we managed a few dink trout on live shrimp free lined.

Been hitting the spoils south of Bird Island, water has been pretty murky but the fish are there. Making drifts on leeward side, trying to stay out of wind and chop, getting limits of trout, few dinks but mostly keepers, and got 5 nice reds also yesterday(should have been 6, technical difficulties). GL.

We waded the windward side of spoils just South of bird island on Friday. Nothing great came of it. Throwing paddles and sand eels with chartreuse tails.

I finally got a chance to go fishing yesterday, and we backed the boat into the water at the ramp, and the battery was so low she wouldn't start....so we pulled the boat back out of the water and went home....

that's my fishing report lately....
becky

PS - Oh! I WOULD have been using a Norton bull minnow in pearl with a chartreuse tail on a 1/8th ounce jighead in 6' of water to catch dink trout, mostly measuring 13-14.5"....IF we would have gotten the boat to start...

Thanks!

Late report, but friday I got out of class at noon and decided to try right there at the Oso, water was beautiful, clear, and still pretty low. There was two bait fisherman and three lure fisherman within sight, and no one was catching anything, so after an hour of that I moved. Next I tried wading from the access road just past Red Dot, I was using a white DOA CAL swim bait minnow with a chartreuse tail, no weight, just slow retrieve and I hooked something big that cut me off in no time. I then tied on a 20lb flouro leader and fished for a while and caught nothing, until I switched to a gold Johnson spoon and caught one nice keeper trout right away. Fished there for probably two hours, then went to check the pack jetties, and there didn't seem to be much going on so I decided to take my sunburnt self home with my one nice trout.
