had the day off friday so what do you do when the weather looks good and your son has no sports for the weekend?! GO TO THE COAST!!! LOL
so i call my bro in law and tell him lets go fishing! he was all in! so i go home load up joey (my son) gets home from school, and were off! I'm hoping to get to academy to use my gift cards frm xmass! we finally get to academy and they have dont have what im looking for. so its off to the beach.start fishing at sun up and 1st spot my bro in law gets his rod in the water 1st, and BAM A POMP!! were thinking its on! nope nothing but whiting. so we start working our way down stoping a few more times and still nothing but whiting. so me and my bro in law decide to go all the way to the jetties, we make it to the 45 or so and we run into my bro in laws buddy patrick. We talk while hes getting shark baits ready to run out. So we tell him what we plan on doing? he tells us he was down there and it wasnt good, and ask if we wanted to stay and fish with him so we say yeah man! water is cold and this crazy guy patrick is gonna run baits out! thats a fisherman!! so he runs out baits. we throw out 2 rods and MORE whiting! patrick is coming back in and riding a good wave, i tell me son joey check him out, THEN BAM PATRICK BITES ITS! man its cold out there! anyway were talking and having a few laughs when one of the rods goes off and we all look at eatch other and say WOW! patrick is hooked up, so were all pumped and he lands a 3' 11 sandbar his 1st eve he says, MY SON SAID LOOK AT THE MAN EATER! LOL he get a measurement and pic then THE OTHER GOES OFF. so were high fiving and hes HOOKED UP AGAIN! and bam we get a 6'3 sand bar!!

then the other rod goes OFF and what do you know were HOOKED UP AGAIN!! we beach and 7'3 sand bar!! so at this point were 3 for 3 on sharks! so patrick is like lets run out 3 more baits for the night, get all 3 out then we get another RUN!!!! holy $&@% were gonna get another shark. but he drops it, o well we get a fire going and me and joey start dinner,island burgers!! they came out amazing. after dinner i hit the hay.

so i wake up to a beautiful sun rise and start fishing, 1st cast get a hit and i miss it. re bait and back out, that time patrick wakes up and were BS and off again set the hook and bam a solid 28' red sweet! so patrick throws out and then i get another red 27' incher hell yeah patrick gets his red a 25'incher. were catching whiting and reds then my son comes and starts fishing. his rod gets a bump and were thinking whiting, then it starts running. my says he needs the fighting belt. hes fighting this fishing and we see hes a solid red and i go and tail it and its BIGGER THEN I EXPECTED WE GET IT AND ITS A 38 AND HALF INCH RED! HIS PB! so i tag it and like a good dad would! that makes the trip! we bang out a few more reds and start packing up to head home,

we end up with 5 reds 1 black drum 1 pomp and 19 whiting. all in all its was a fun trip! and made a new friend. thanks patrick

cant wait to get back down on the beach! until then work and watching my kiddos playing basketball and tee ball. good times guys

Great write up, report, felt like I was there with you guys. Pictures are always a nice touch. Great winter trip.

Great write up, Joe! It was great to meet you and Joey and glad he a good time on the beach! We will definitely need to do that again.

Wow what a trip! What kind of hooks were y'all using for the pomp and Whiting?

mustad 1/0 and 2/0 is all i use on my pomp rigs. everything was caught on pomp rigs! what size do you use?

The same 1/0 mustads when I'm using bait. I want to try free lining some DOA shrimps and spoons this coming year to see if I can hook some fish better. I enjoy catching Whiting a lot but have yet to catch some pomps
