Over the last two months while fishing in PA, I met a man who was stationed at Pearl during Vietnam. He and his wife were staying at the same RV park as me and the Mrs. They were mainly fishing offshore chasing kings and lings. He "drove" the pilot boat out of Pearl and the ferry boat to the USS Arizona. One night we were talking and he casually mentioned that he had lowered the colors on the Arizona numerous times and it literally (no lie) gave me goose bumps. The Mrs. came down that weekend and when I relayed that story to her, it brought tears to her eyes,(her
Dad served on the USS Forrestal just prior to Vietnam) then mine. Made me add another item to the bucket list, I gotta go see the Arizona, just have to hit the lotto first. Maybe it's because my Grandad served on the Texas (BB-35) from '36 to '39 and on Bouganville during the war that made me feel a connection with this very intriguing old man. I think he was impressed that I knew 1100+ men perished on her. We made plans to meet up again next year when I come back down. Thank you for your service, Tom (and all veterans) hope to meet up with you again, next year, if not sooner.

Been to the Arizona several times, twice on the way to Vietnam. Quite a site. You can still see one of the stacks and oil is still leaking up from the bunkers
