The aerosols were pretty bad yesterday evening, but I went to see the carnage for myself. Here is a shot looking north from the jetties. Was like that until just around Newport Pass Rd. and it thinned out considerably.
South side of the channel was primarily mullet, but the north side had a WIDE variety of species. The weirdest one was the parrotfish?!?!
Lots of gafftops, spadefish, needlefish, bermuda chubs, some lookdowns, stargazers, pigfish...... It was an impressive list.
And all I could think of was, "Oh great, NOW the Sargassum shows up"!!! |

It was the same south of bob hall. A strong high tide had the dead fish spread out from almost the dune line to the shore. Interesting to see the parrotfish, would be nice to have some of those around.
Yesterday I was coughing at my house which is at least 2-3 miles from the beach, not good. Also saw a few dead fish floating, I am not very close to packery channel so Ill just call that a coincidence. |

Thanks CS! Yeah I too had noticed the sargassum but I would take three foot high piles of that over any red tide. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

Seems the surf is becoming a nightmare, RT and sargassum?! Does RT affect offshore fishing much, or is it mainly a surf thing? _________________ Stinger-A |

No reds or snook, but did come across a large SST that someone had tossed up on the jetties. But it was the only one I saw.
That's a size 13 Teva, so it was a healthy trout, save for the red tides stuff.......
No other game fish to speak of, but I would not rule out some reds washing up soon. |

Friend of mine sent me this an hour ago... He said there were about 30 south of the packery jetties, I found about a dozen, along with some big black drum and 100s of ladyfish.

Unfortunately, YEP!!!!!!!
With eels down south, that tells me it has pushed the depth of the water column and is getting those demersal species too. Blast you 'rojo lunar water movement'. |
