Where are all the fish on the King Ranch Shoreline???
It used to be a sure fire place to get a couple of trout anytime and lately I have made 3 trips in a row and got skunked. We usually drift from marker 133 south all the way to Emordes Hole and its been sad lately. Shrimp under a rattle float hasnt been touched. This past weekend I had to run down all the way to the landcut to get some nice reds and trout.
Anyone else had some slow day on the King Ranch? I drive all the way down from San Antonio and those gas prices are painfull when when the fish aren't biting. |

You are on the wrong side of the bay hit the opposite shoreline, we have been doing way better in the deeper water.

I am a fan of the KRS as well, and it has been slow for me too. We have been finding some fish on the other side as other people are saying. The windsurfers don't use too much water - it's easy to fish around them. _________________ Save the seagrass......Shoot some ducks |

Hard to get that ace. Gotta really lead them. And they're seasonal. |

Runner, if you're not familiar with the east side of the intracoastal, go with someone that knows the area first......you're right, its shallow!!
what are the points systems for kite-surfers? they are a little more of a three-dimensional target, should be extra...... |

Try going a little farther south. Flats across from Bird Island, or try bait. _________________ -STAY THIRSTY MY FRIENDS!- |

SO why are the fish not against the King Ranch Shoreline....
I think I can shed some light on it and I have never fished KRSL in my life. Most of the Texas Bays are enclosed behind barrier islands. The sediment that comes from the streams and rivers draining our great state seldom makes to the gulf, falling out into the bays. All of these streams and bays drain out on our bays' western shorelines. This sediment is MUD not sand!!! MUD is dark in color and as the days get longer, that exposure to the sun heats up the mud.
So in early summer fish tend to move to the back side of the islands or the eastern shorelines of our bays because the water and bottoms are cooler because they are sand. Actually some pretty simple common sense kinda stuff....
As I said above, I have never fished the KRSL so I do not know what kind of bottom it has. But from yall's lack of fish... I am guessing it may be muddy.
I love to fish marshes but I seldom fish a marsh between mid May and late October because I know my best chance of catching fish is over sand. |

Thanks Coastal,
Makes a heck of a lot of sense to me. This would explain why in the winter time the west shoreline is so productive, because the mud is warmer. But I can attest to the fact that this theory does not apply in the landcut. The west shoreline is so much more productive. |

There are exceptions , no doubt. Galveston Bay is a great example. A lot of the marshes along the western shoreline are deeper or have deeper channels feeding them. The depth works there to help keep it cooler. Plus they tend to have more tidal influence because of the deeper channels.
I fish mostly the middle coast from Matagorda to Corpus. That pattern works for most of that stretch.
So now some one tell me... Does the KRSL have a soft bottom? |

| Yup it has its soft spots but also has some hard spots. I have only waded up near the shore though. I know that there is also sand pockets so I would say it has a lil bit of everything. |
