Anybody else see the truck at the Bird Island boat ramp sitting on blocks with a busted out window? Not sure if it had a trailer that was taken as well or if someone was just really upset about a truck without a trailer parking in a boat & trailer spot. Also noticed it looked like somebody crashed into the cameras on the way out the gate and they either caught on fire or may have been set on fire. Shocked

As busy of a ramp Bird Island is on any given weekend, SOMEBODY had to see something. You don't just jack up a truck on blocks and take all the tires in a few minutes, in relative solitude..... Confused

Wow! That looks like a friend's truck! I've heard for years about those kind of problems at the Bird Island ramp, but never seen the result of it. Every time we have parked there over a few days time to visit a cabin I was always concerned about returning to something like that. Got to be an absolute nightmare, especially if the owner does not live locally! In this case, the trailer was probably moved to another truck while the owner of this one is getting new wheels, etc.

My guess in that some stole the truck, took it down there, and stripped the wheels. No telling what else is gone.

I thought those rangers were super active down there. How could this happen? And, if anyone does get caught participating in theft/burglary on a federal preserve, they get to go to federal court, face federal minimum sentencing, and a completely different process than at state level. The feds should put a bait truck on the ramp and fix this problem.

Yep....I was out there on Sunday and saw it.....it was still there at 1pm. And I agree that it was stolen and stripped there sometime during the night. I am sure they do not patrol as often at night. What a bummer....

Last Wednesday night a friend and I went down pins to fish for a couple days. On the way down we came across a 5-ton pickup that was down with a flat. We stop to see if we can help. He was towing a dodge pickup. He told us he was towing company. The owner of the dodge was down there fishing solo past the 50 when someone stopped and grabbed all his rigs while he was out on the yak. Apparently he yakked back and jumped in the pickup to chase them down. Hit a wash out around the 40 going who knows how fast and blew out his front end.

My nightmare. Even down the beach, you can't escape the suburban trash. Thanks, Obama.

it's getting to or already past the point where you have to carry a gun everywhere.

Wonder if the cameras were still working at the time. If so, they should have gotten pictures of the truck coming into the park as well as the driver.

With the information in these posts it looks like the criminal element is taking advantage of the poor surveillance of the park.

Well it's a lot of area to patrol, but poor surveillance? Nah those fools got their pictures took going through the only way in or out. Those cameras always work. I know, I make stupid faces at them every time I go through Laughing

I was there on Monday around 11am and was able to see the gentleman putting tires back on his car. I didn't get a chance to talk to him. To add insult to injury, i love how the park service put that orange sticker on his car.
