Interested in a kayak and kayak fishing but I have a question......when fishing BTB how do you keep your catch? I don't really think it smart to hang them overboard on a stringer unless you want a 8 foot visitor snatching them.
Is there a manner in which you put the catch into the kayak? I was looking at some at Academy and Richard's and didn't see any yaks that looked like they had a place to store your catch.
Any advice would be helpful.... |

That's very "cool"....... I've been wondering the same thing for awhile, as I'll most definitely be getting into kayak fishing, hopefully in the not too distant future. 20" seems kinda short though....... _________________ Dave

Yeah it is... could still fit some snapper in it though! They have different sizes, that was just the first search result I pulled up.` _________________ "I never had an Easter, but I've always had a bunch of speakers" - Beardo |

Fishing the Mustang Island channels at night in a kayak ... along come some dolphin ... makes me nervous that they will snatch my stringer and capsize the yak.
Do you know how hard it is for a fat old man to get back in a sit on top yak? _________________ Willee 361-563-1303 |

If you have not purchased a kayak yet, I would look into the kayaks with built in storage. I'm getting ready to purchase a viking which has a chill pod for fish storage. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/NextLevelFishingTV

I wanted a different layout than my kayak offered for placing a fishbag behind me where there was more space. After making a simple aluminum frame, I have a great place for my bag to ride, and it works great.
Amazon used to sell a Yak Catch III cooler that's 40 inches long. Mine is nearing the end of its useful life, and I'm worried about the lack of options out there. Might have to build my own. |

Hi Professor Salt,
Can you post a photo of the Aluminum Frame you created for your fish bag for your kayak? |

| I'll get it out tomorrow and post up a few. I paddle a Santa Cruz with a split back end, so it needed something that would allow me to put the bag out over the empty space. The frame is light and works perfectly. |

Thanks for all the advice. It sure has helped. I saw a video of a guy in Hawaii. He pulled out his catch and inside the hull of the yak there was a Kingfish, dorado and a tuna.
I wish I could find it and I'd post it. Was a nice set up. |

Hi Professor Salt,
There's a huge amount of Kayak Fishermen in Australia and New Zealand, and it's cool what products vendors over there are creating.
Have you seen the fishbag option called the IceMule?

I've emailed them to ask what their cost is for shipping to the States. |

| I have the large 42" Ice Mule cooler and it works like a champ. It will hold a 20 lb bag of ice for at least 8 hours on the water. You can get them on Amazon, just search for Ice Mule. |
