In past seasons I have waded east and west from Bayside Park, but all I've caught is a hand full of rat reds. I heard about the area near the 13th hole but the new breakwater for the La Quinta and the LP facility makes that look a little scary. My questions are 1) what areas are articles describing when they suggest the Portland shoreline? That could be along the back bay on the north side of 35, or the area I've been fishing, or even the bay shoreline opposite Sunset Lake, and 2) is it safe to wade near the 13th hole given all the dredging that went on there? I'd think the bottom was real soft at this point.
Also, has anyone had luck out on the flat on the north side of the causeway in the back bay? I see people wading out there from time to time.
I appreciate any information anyone has to share. |

| I have waded the area on the backside of sunset lake many times (to the left of indian point pier) and have had decent luck. I have waded during the morning/day and I have fished there at night and have caught good size reds and trout. bait is very plentiful there in sunset lake most of the time, and also on the shoreline that i'm talking about fishing. there is a road that goes back behind sunset lake that people walk a lot, and there are little entrances that you can park at and walk to the water |

I've never done it, but I wouldn't think wading in the newely dredged area is a good idea, the depth drops off quickly. _________________ "I never had an Easter, but I've always had a bunch of speakers" - Beardo |

| Thank y'all for the heads up. I know a lot of people who used to cross the golf course and wade near the 13th hole. A creek drains right there and I've been told a lot of big reds have been caught there. Now that its right next to the extended channel, i'd think the fishing would just get better, but its probably going to require a kayak at the very least to fish it now. Especially alone. |
