Made it out Saturday 12/6 to MakoMark new area, it was very difficult to paddel through the breakers blind folded and to the spot LOL. Left the shore at first light, breakers were 2ft plus not bad, the fog was worse. Things started off slow with MakoMark catching a hardhead for his first fish. After 30 mins or so the snappers started showing up, mix sizes, 15" to 25 1/2. MakoMark caught a very nice grouper at the end of the trip. All together I would estimate 40 plus snappers were caught. Here are a few pics of our snappers we kept. I learned two valuable lessons when snapper fishing on this trip. 1) make sure u have something to grab (fish grip) them with, 2) use gloves at the minimum. I lost my fish grips on a prior trip and paid the price, here is a pic of my hand. I have battel scares on both legs and hands. Happy Holidays to all!!!

Dude, you're lucky that you didn't REALLY get nailed: Snapper gill covers are like long, curved razor blades!!!! I got opened up twice in one day by Mangroves. Getting "snapped" would hurt less and heal faster!
Great report, and congrats on the trip! _________________ Dave

It has just about come to the point that if the Feds says ANYTHING, believe the opposite is happening! _________________ Dave

Nice report and beauty catches.
Your hands are another story, though. Peroxide, peroxide, peroxide!
Reminds me of my days as a deckhand on one of the local 12-hour snapper boats (Do those things exist anymore??? ). Those spines turn your hands into pincushions, and you just are begging for a case of fish poisoning. Keep those punctures clean, and if you can, carry some peroxide in the vehicle/tackle box to treat them as quick as you can. It can get pretty nasty.... |

And change out your peroxide before each trip. Hydrogen Peroxide is H2O2 or water with an extra oxygen attached and is a relatively unstable molecule. . It relatively rapidly degrades to h20 and O2.
There are better antibacterials available. Kevlar gloves wouldn't hurt either. _________________ Gary J

| Wow, awesome catch! My hands get tore up like that sometimes when harvesting at the shrimp farm. I like to take a tube of the Neosporin, the pain killing one, and just smear it all over my hands. Takes the edge off the ache and helps prevent infection. |

I got an infection in Baja doing that and had to get doxycyoine tablets. You might want to get your doctor to prescribe some for you. It also happens to be the antibiotic you take if you suspect vibrio while out at a remote location.
Nice fish! _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |
