I wanted everyone to know that the swans are all back home and safe. I sure hope they stay put! I'm happy that so many others had the opportunity to enjoy them. I'm very blessed to get to see them, along with many other water foul, on my property every day....I just hope the pelican that showed up yesterday doesn't eat all the fish! It's my grandsons job to catch them! Smile
A special thank you goes out to all on this post who discouraged others from hunting or capturing them. I sincerely appreciate that!

Awesome! Just out of curiosity, Did the fourth Swan stay put in your pond while the others were out playing around?

Yes, he is pinioned. He can't fly. I've had him for about 10 years.

"There are a lot of trumpeter swans around where my folks used to live in Mt. Vernon, WA. They are absolutely gorgeous especially in flight"

Used to live in Edmonds, WA. People living on small lakes used to purchase swans to put on the lake to drive off Canadian Geese. Apparently swans are territorial and don't like Geese which are a real pest in Western Washington. Geese will strip your lawn of grass and leave loads of Goose poop all around - I mean inches deep of the stuff.

*SWAN UPDATE*
My swans flew off again this morning. Please, those of you that mentioned shooting or catching them, I'm BEGGING you not to do that. Those of you that have enjoyed them, I hope you get to see and enjoy them again. I'm saying a little prayer that they come back home safely. I've been in touch with the bird curator of a zoo, who assures me that i am doing everything correctly. That, as I suspected, they are probably looking for a new nesting site, (our pond is LOADED right now with ducks avoiding hunters) and they will probably stay safe at home if I clip their wings.. I didn't want to do that, but I'll have to seriously consider it should they return home again. Sad He also told me how to keep them from breeding, so I won't have to worry about more babies flying off. He also assured me that I need not worry about them becoming an invasive species. They are only aggressive during breeding season, which is now, so be careful, and when they have young. Otherwise they are very docile and do have natural predators here.
Thanks again to all of you who have enjoyed them from a distance, discouraged others from harming them, and have said nice things. I truly appreciate it!

They have set up right at the end of the street I live on. My wife and daughter watch them all the time. If I see ANYONE down there messing with the swans, I will be all over them.
