Fix'in to head south and fish the beach as much as possible from the 21st of Dec to the 1st.
Thought about if we get tired of catching hard heads, takin a trip all the way down to South Padre if we could get on some pomps. After a 20+ hour drive what the heck is a few hours more.
We were down to Port A and PINS in March and did all right on whiting and pompano. No 4x4 but we have a good beach cart.
What do you guys think. I don't care if all I catch is hard heads. At least the water ain't hard (Frozen) down yonder. |

Don't forget about fishing the North Jetty, or even the surf on St Jo.
Winter time is a great time to fish over there. _________________ I'd rather be fishing |

We have taken the Jetty boat over to St. Joe before but it was in the summer time and I did not have the right kind of gear and all I did was get broke off in the surf.
I have not fished the north jetty before.
I'm sure I can just watch and see what everybody is doing, but your going to be targeting Sheephead off the rocks right.
Are you fishing the bottom or floating a rig as close to the rocks as possible without getting snagged. Live shrimp I would think.
Is it possible to dig deep and find sand fleas?
I have caught whiting on the bottom from the south jetty in October.
We also took a boat ride over to St. Joe a couple of years ago and fished the beach where the old inlet used to be.
Are they working on that to open it back up? The guy who took us over there was a local fisherman and was dating my mother in law at the time. They broke up so no more free rides.
Is there any way to get over there other than the Jetty boat? |

Typically there's a pretty darn good trout bite over there. You can catch sheephead too, but that's usually better towards the spring.
I use a lemon rig with live shrimp, or "free shrimp" with just a hook or small split shot.
The surf break can be good for reds too, just use a carolina rig with shrimip or mullet.
If the "old inlet" you're talking about is Cedar Bayou, it was re-opened recently.
Only way over to the North is by boat...guess you could take a yak across if you have the cajones for it! _________________ I'd rather be fishing |
