I use to target bluefish as youngster but here in corpus i only caught one or two by accident . i want to get into catching bluefish again and because it is not a popular species over here i thought members will be more willing to give up a bluefish honey hole. any pointers will be appreciated .

Use a vertical jig around any of the gas platforms. You can get all you want.

We caught them in the bay in Maryland. They are an oily fish for sure if you eat them...I had a friend use a budweiser plug and catch them when they are schooling. People claim the small ones they called snappers would come up your line trying to eat it.

Yes i will eat them, i guess it is more of what was considered normal while growing up. The Europeans can not believe carp is considered trash fish over here, they pay money just to get access to carp waters over there. Sadly i fish from the bank/beach so going to the rigs is not possible.

My DW will just pick at fish i caught myself think it is more to honor me but she will clean up on HEB farm raised, chemically induced and hormone comatose fish.

I've caught a lot of them this year at the Packery Jetties, surf and BHP. Some days we could have filled the coolers with them if we wanted. Most if not all were caught on finger mullet while targeting Reds.

Fished for them off the Virginia coast when I was a grad student there. Smaller ones are called choppers for a reason - count your fingers! Also, lots of fun on the fly rod - caught a bunch off of Martha's Vineyard during a striped bass trip with fly rods.

Bluefish/striper feeding frenzy on the fly....now thats what I'm talking about

X2 on jigging the rigs. In the fall and spring I've caught them on heavy spoons at south packery too, toss it out far, let it sink and jig it on the way in. Move around till you get hits, and when you get one there are probably more.

I have caught blues on BHP on Johnson Sprite spoons ( gold ) and cut bait. My many experiences with them in Destin come mostly from fishing on the bottom with live pinfish. Sometimes they are a nusance when I'm targeting reds and such.

They are not prolific like they are on the east coast. They don't get as big either. Biggest I've caught was a 20" fish and that was offshore. Inshore they are usually much smaller. Always catch them by accident when using sabikis for baitfish or when fishing for smacks. They'll take lures readily and also live shrimp. They also eat like smacks in that they are an oily fish. Try splitting them and smoking them over hickory. Use a cooler smoke than for brisket. My bbq smoker has a tower to do things like hanging fish. Pick the meat and scramble with eggs. Ymmmm!!
