I had hopes to make it to the Benefit Tournament and as the weekend neared it became obvious there would be no way to be at the Captain's meeting in time. Sending my sincerest apology for my absence, donation made.
With a late start I did manage to get my supple bum in gear and launched Saturday afternoon.
"The road goes on forever and the party never ends." REK
"Where we're going, we don't need roads." Doc Brown
Well, that is kind of how I felt; ready to take on another adventure. Just like we all did by riding down the river with Huck Finn. Now, it is even more meaningful. It's an escape from modern living. Congested eight lane highways. The fast pace of everyone rushing to the next traffic light. I needed to put some time aside to listen to a pack of coyotes split up and regroup in the distance. Take in the smell of the landscape carrying over the bay. And, find myself just falling into a lull at waves lapping against the hull. There will be some fishing along the way.
Drifted into the south shore of Baffin east of Los Corrallos with a perfectly clear sky. I was treated with a shooting star. With such a late start I didn't do much fishing.
Next morning.
Made a marathon wade in the brown, six inch visibility water with nothing for the box. Had a dolphin encounter, sight casted to a five lb drum way shallow with it taking the Down South glow/chart lure but missed the hookup, and while waist deep an oversize red surfaced within an arms length and crused by.
Later...drifting... 21"
25"
19"
Fajitas de la laguna
It was a good day
Good morning, day two.
Will be fishing my way back to the Bluff.
My favorite spot in Nighthawk
that lull....
Captains' inspection, All Hands to Quarters
Stand Easy

That sounds and looks amazing. One day soon I need to emulate a weekend like that.

I'm still searching for the perfect spot for an island based camp. I always take out what I bring in. So far my floating campsites have been positioned where I most wanted to extensively explore. The camping idea is mainly to extend my stay out late so I don't have to run back in the dark. I enjoy fishing the evening twilight most of all. The guys with the cabins must know the feeling. Next year I'm planning on a trip leaving from the Bluff fishing to Port Mansfield and back, all by boat.
I'm sure there are many just laughing at this fool sleeping 18 inches above the water. Next time I'll try to take a picture from inside the tent to show a perspective. The laguna is special place and the magic is still there. It would be a blessing to get clear water back in her some day. _________________ kick your shoes off and cast a line |

I like to camp out for the same reasons, I'm on the lookout for an island with good trees for a hammock. I like the tentcot, strongly considered that route. |

A great report and great pictures. Thanks.
We fish the same spot in Night Hawk Bay. I could show a picture I took from the same spot last month, but I haven't figured out the part about loading pictures from my PC to another site. _________________ You have 2 choices in life: The right one or the easy one. |
