I need some advice on rigging up some PVC rod holders for fishing the beach that you drive into the sand. How deep do you normaly have to drive them into the wet sand to hold a light rod and reel? How much PVC do you normally leave above the sand? Thanks in advance for your ideas.

Get you a 10' joint of PVC. Cut it in half either flush or in a slight angle. I normally dig a whole with a shovel or just work it down along the water line. It'll usually go down around a foot which is plenty even for bugger rods. 1 1/2" PVC will also work for lighter rods but it'll have a but more flex to it.

Hope this helps.

May not be the most noble way to do it, but all you have to do is place the pipe right at the waters edge and suck on the end of the pipe. It will goes down easily, no holes to dig, and no noises made when pounding it down with a mallet.

Lol. I also just "suck it down." Just be sure to drive it in 10-12 inches, and check them periodically by giving them an extra "suck". Works in any moist sand, or underwater

I like to cut a stick in half most of the time and that works just fine. I do have a few that are maybe 7 feet that I will really drive in if i feel I need them to be a bit more secure. I drive them in at least a foot and a half. I use a 20 pound sledge with a long handle. I start them by hand and slide the handle in the pvc. Then I just lift the metal hammer part and slam it down. Works good enough. It is noisy but they hold really well.

There is also the method where you drill a hole through the pvc and place a rod in it and twist it while pushing down.

You won't see me sucking the pipe.... Laughing

I just hose clamp a 4' piece of rebar to a 2' piece of PVC. No sucking or T post driver needed just push it in the sand, works great

I just duct tape PVC to rebar. Lasts for years and pennies and seconds to replace. Might just be me but I have sometimes got line tangled on hose clamp.

You can use a creature catcher to make the holes, perfect size for the PVC.

Thanks everyone for your ideas. I saw some metal rods being used to hold PVC up on our trip. I might rig one or two up like that. I like the duct tape idea....

In the bay I would do that all day, but you get in the surf and that's a good way to lose a rod! Too many big fish in that big ol pond that will pull it over and take your rod!
