I've seen it on the map but never been out there, on the map it doesn't look like the channel is active. Can anyone confirm or deny?

jetties are there but as far as a pass to the bay it has been sanded in for years. Theres still a channel on the bay side that can be fished if thats what you are asking.

I was wondering if the channel still passed to the gulf--seems like it would be a really nice spot right now if it did. Thanks for the info..

The channel didn't last long at all. I moved to CC from Hawaii in the summer of 1972 and Fish Pass jetties were new then, but already trying to bar up in the channel. Matter of fact, on some days we could surf the channel!!!

By 1984 or 85, it was completely closed. Like Landlocked mentioned, the mouth was a preferred spot for surfing back in the early 80's. Been there many times myself. Now, other then the jetties sticking out into the Gulf, you would never know there used to be a pass there, as the dunes have completely swallowed it, especially on the bay side, where the vegetation has filled in well past the highway. The channel to the bay is still there.

Are you thinking of Cedar Bayou?

no, i thought at that time they closed all passes. the fiss pass would have been closer to the spill.

No. Not all passes. That would have meant that the ship channel at Port A. would have been filled in! Shocked Fish Pass was left alone during Ixtoc, as was Mansfield and Brazos-Santiago. And they were way closer to the source of the spill.

Not to hijack the thread, but I have it on good authority that Cedar Bayou was popped open today by the dredging and extreme high tide combination.

I saw on the news that they are working to reopen the fish pass. There's no mention of that here and I was wondering if anyone here is monitoring that work. Do you think it will do any good?

Fish pass has been silted in for years. It was probably doomed from the start by not even being dredged at a natural pass. Better placement may have been CC pass it was the first to open and last to close after major storms. There was someone a few years back that was willing to dredge it for the silt. It got tied up in red tape in my opinion by those wanting to see the opening of Packery. $$$. One good storm like hurricane Allen in 80 and everything at Packery will be washed away. It opened every pass from Mansfield to Port A .Wish I'd have taken more pictures.

Fish Pass is done for w/the opening of Packery.
some big dunes behind it.
I doubt even a Celia type storm would open it again...
