Proposition 1 will be on the ballot November 4th. Please vote yes. Also tell your friends.
Thanks
I don't normally send these messages out, or forward those I have gotten, but I believe this is important; Texas roads are taking a heavy beating, and maintenance is a major problem. Right now in Waco on I-35, we have been going through upgrades and rebuilding for 5 to 10 years non-stop, basically attempting to maintain and structure a road system that will take us successfully into the 21st Century.
In South Texas around the Eagle Ford Shale oil projects, the roads are being damaged faster than they can be repaired. But, Texas, benefits from all out growth. In the coming election, you have a chance to help remedy this road maintenance problem.
Austin Bridge and Road | An Austin Industries Company:
Austin Bridge & Road builds landmark construction projects including urban highway interchanges, tollways, runways, port facilities, border crossings, etc.

Austin Industries is a three business group that exists under the Austin Industries umbrella. They are based in Dallas, and they are heavily Texas AGGIE oriented. Many AGGIE engineers and TAMU graduates work there, making Texas a better place to live and drive through construction of such buildings as the newest terminal at DFW, the American Center in Dallas, the new football stadiums at TCU and Baylor, roads throughout Texas, and many, many other facilities we use daily throughout the state.
Austin Road and Bridge does much work and holds contracts for improving deteriorating Texas roads. Money is always a factor. I suspect many on this list have suffered the problems and effects relating to our roads; now, you have a chance to help get these roads repaired so we can drive with pleasure and security over the coming years.

Subject: September 2014 - Texas Proposition 1
Texas Proposition 1
September 2014
Austin has been building Texas' infrastructure for almost 100 years. Out of all 50 states, Texas has the most road and street mileage (300,000 miles), total railroad mileage (more than 10,000 miles), and total airports and airstrips (about 1,800). This includes 49,829 bridges, 423 miles of intra-coastal waterways along the Texas coast, and 28 ports.
Texas' transportation system is being challenged. Ongoing population growth requires increased capacity to control traffic congestion and address safety issues. And much of the existing infrastructure is deteriorating and in need of repairs and rehabilitation. Damaged infrastructure threatens to slow the oil boom underway in the Eagle Ford Shale area of South Texas where overweight and oversized trucks are creating stress on our roadways.
On November 4, we can show support for improving Texas' infrastructure by voting YES to Proposition 1. If approved, more than one-third of the money currently going to the Economic Stabilization Fund (better known as the Rainy Day Fund) will go to the State Highway Fund. The amendment is not a new tax increase; it just changes where some tax dollars are currently going. In addition, the money cannot be earmarked for any toll roads.
Texas has a $5 billion annual shortfall for transportation needs, such as recurring maintenance and repairs. If this amendment is passed, it would be one step toward providing this unmet funding.
To learn more about how you can help improve Texas' transportation system, visitwww.infrastructuretexas.org or "like" Texas Infrastructure Now on Facebook.
The election date is November 4. Early voting begins October 20 and ends October 31. We will soon be sending out a list of polling locations throughout the state. Your vote counts.
To register to vote, please visit the Texas Secretary of State's website by clicking this link.
Sincerely,
David B. Walls

I apologize for the length of this message and the fact it is not about veterinary medicine, but in a way it is. If you can't drive to your patients when necessary, or they can't get to you safely, all of us suffer the consequences. Please vote "Yes" for better roads.

As an alternative to your approach, why don't we take that 1.7 $B and split it between windstorm Insurance, and the education fund?
Windstorm insurance and education would benefit more folks, instead of the Austin Bridge Company...are you a paid lobbyist for them? _________________ wake and speed are not linear |

Not hardly, I am a veterinarian and businessman, but all of us need good roads and bridges to do business and get around. Windstorm insurance effects a few people across the state and education effects many, but if you can't get there by car or truck no one is going to do much.
We have poured billions into education over the years; have our schools improved? No it hasn't, so we don't need to throw more millions after many wasted millions. We have to have great education, but to have that, we need a new plan, not more money at this time.
The simple fact is Texas needs to improved the road system and we don't have the money to do it. I am for tollroads 100%, but many people don't like that. Releasing a portion of these funds helps build better roads and bridges and it helps maintain the infrastructure of Texas, keeping us a great, mobile state. The only way it helps Austin Road and Bridge is if they get a contract, which is no sure thing. But, whoever gets the contracts, everyone who drives a car or truck in Texas benefits from better roads. _________________ Ray |

So...I agree with your point on education. Why is it that windstorm is not applicable to tornado prone areas? It is a view held by lots of folks that it only applies to the coast.
As a business guy, like me, do the math for instance take wind damage from 2010 until 2013 in Texas and look at the numbers.
I have do lived in FTW and I replaced my roof 3 times in 9 years. Lived on the coast and have not suffered any damage for the last 8 years. If your county wants good roads, build em! I too am for toll roads, but quoting a construction company to get someone's vote is called lobbying by any definition.
I will vote NO! _________________ wake and speed are not linear |

You and I know basically zip about road construction; I posted his statements because he does know a lot about it. He, I, and you need roads; if we don't have them, we won't have business.
I would love for you to vote yes, not because I will make a cent, I won't, but if you really are in business, you should really understand what a poor business decision that is in the long term for you and your's. If Texas doesn't have great roads, we won't remain at the front of the pack. _________________ Ray |

Roads where I live are fine. Let those who drive on the roads and tear them up pay for them. Same with everything else. I'm tired of constantly being raped to pay for someone else s problem. No - we are not all in this together - that's an absolute load of libby crap. You take care of yourself and I will take care of myself. Keep your grimy paws out of my pockets. I consider your taking my money to pay for something for someone else just plain old stealing. I will definitely vote no and encourage all my friends and associates to vote no also. If there is a group opposing this rape me again propostiton I think I will make a contribution. _________________ Now that food has replaced my sex life I can't even get into my own pants!!!!!!!!
