I do not mean to sound negative. the following is from my experience with a Northstar 800. I had it for 3 years of beach camping.
You will need to think about a 250/2500 size truck. I would recommend a 350/3500 single rear wheel drive.
That pop up truck camper is still going to weigh in at about 1400lbs. They do make them for 150/1500 trucks but still a lot of weight on a light duty platform.
After this picture was taken, I added some suspension mods to get the truck to sit level.
I have since gone to a hard side camper and a 350.
Do what you want but if you do not want to listen to me go to http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/listings/forum/27.cfm
You will find a lot of information.
On a personal note, the pop up is great on the beach. Like sleeping in a screen porch. Good breeze, no sand, and comfortable. Just pay attention to your weight.

|
|
| I have been camping on the PINS with truck campers for years. I have been able to camp as far as the 44mm with them. My advice is to look for a camper with as little wood in it as possible. When I come down from colorado< I will stay on the beach for up to seven days. What I have found is the wood gets damp and soft. I have had a hard time closeing my pop up campers after a week. I now use a hard side. Four wheel camper make a nice unit made out of other things beside wood. I love useing a truck camper on the beach. |
