Not really fishing related but cool. She passed through the SPI jetty early this morning to be dismantled along with the USS Forrestal. USS Constellation is next... probably around December.

Farewell old girl. Always touches the heart to see a piece of American history. Too bad it's getting dismantled. Would have liked to see a tourist attraction out of her. Guess the funds are never there. _________________ wishin i was fishin! |

Good pics of an old ship. I was on the Midway. One of my duties as a qualified Helmsman was steering the ship 4 hours a day while underway. We use to steam with the Saratoga. Well once or twice, and the Enterprise. The Midway is a museum like the Lexington. LEST WE FORGET.... _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED.

| I've been on deployment with the USS Saratoga shadowing the whole way. And who that has ever served in the USN can't remember the training films from the USS Forrestal? |

Sad for me to see. My tin can (DD787) plane-guarded the Sara all over the Gulf of Tonkin off the coast of Vietnam. Watched many an F4 fly off and land on her deck all hours of the day and in all kinds of weather. Really really sad seeing an old friend getting destroyed like that. _________________ Now that food has replaced my sex life I can't even get into my own pants!!!!!!!!

| Cool pics. Gunner, US Somers DDG-34,1977-1980. Plane guarded a carrier in the Western Pacific sometime around 1979. Believe it was the Midway. Refueled with her as well if memory serves me correctly. Photos definitely bring back memories. |

DD-781 USS Robert k Huntingdon was the first ship I ever set foot on in my Naval career. She was Sumner Class and the Kies was Gearing Class. Wonderful old memories. Also served on USS Francis Marion, USS Long Beach (CGN-9), and USS Ogden (LPD-5) _________________ Gary J
