I went off shore Wednesday to a rig in federal waters and the snapper were biting like crazy. I noticed the other boats weren't always releasing there fish and were leaving early.

Later that day I saw two of these boats at the new artificial reef site trolling. I realized at that point that if I'd have wanted to turn those guys in I wouldn't know who to call. I know the coast guard doesn't enforce fish and game laws. Who has that responsibility?

They weren't in violation of any state laws once they got into state waters.

The USCG does enforce federal fish laws.

or perhaps people can stand up against the tyranny of NMFS and their 7 day red snapper season that is purely a political move against the states along the gulf coast.

I agree SCREW the feds. I spoke with a high ranking game warden and he told me civil disobedience is needed to help fix situation. I agree 100%

On another note TPWD had the big twin engine boat out all weekend in the gulf.......

While I don't dispute that, it's sorta like the general feeling that taxes are too high, and if everybody didn't pay their federal taxes, they could not lock up everybody, right?

Well, my answer would be, "O.K., you first"!!! Smile

Not involving fishing regs. I would think if they were assisting Homeland or Customs/Border Patrol in some way that would be the only reason for them to pass the 9 mile line.

that is incorrect.....TPWD Game Wardens do indeed have authority to enforce Federal laws.....they just made the agreement with the Feds last year and that changed this past August 31 with the new licenses.....I went to the scoping meetings, no one spoke out against it and it passed Commission unanimously without discussion.....

so yeah, TPWD has the authority to enforce out to 200 miles....
