Friday morning I pulled the boat up to Billings Bait stand around 5am.
It was crowded with boats as expected for the summer season. As I tied up to the dock between the bait stand and the old Castaways stand I notice some one shining a flash light at me. After getting my bait and going back to the boat the light is still shinning around at me and other boats. This time I look back and notice a older man with the light and he is carrying a deer rifle in his hands. Shocked

I assume he lives at the Castaways stand or on the shrimp boat there.

It is concerning with all the fishermen and kids around the area to have this behavior in a public area.

Anyone else see this?

He probably just lost a Yeti out of his truck.

If he's not harassing anyone what's wrong with the "behavior?"

Someone shining a light in my face with a rifle is harassment.

There are no deer at the bait stand. There is no reason for anyone to be walking around with a deer rifle. I'm sure it got the attention of alot of folks, but if no one called the law.........

I once bought a used rifle from a guy on TexasBowhunter.com and we met at the Home Depot on i35 and 3009 here in San Antonio. It felt really weird in the parking lot standing at his tailgate going over the rifle and looking through the scope and down the barrel and giving it a good inspection as literally hundreds of cars were driving by us because we were right on the access road. We were there for close to half an hour, nobody said anything. I made a comment about feeling weird and the seller quickly squashed it saying don't let the liberal yuppies dictate my thought process and that we were doing nothing wrong so why feel weird about it. Anyway no idea what the bait stand goofball was doing but if he's not harming anyone I figure there's no reason to freak out about it.

BLAMM!!! 30-6 goes off. Didn't harm anyone, must have been a misfire. Understandable, it's cool. Back to refueling.

Somebody comes at by boat with a rifle, there is a good chance it's going to get real loud and not be a good day for him.

Odds are better that while we're gawking at the rifle guy some googan will run us over while backing up his boat.

Why would anyone with a rifle come at your boat? He can hit you from where he's at. Laughing
Seriously though if a guy with a rifle approaches my boat sure it'll alert me but most likely he just wants to ask you if you saw the guys who ran off with his Yeti cooler while he was refueling. You're gonna shoot a man who's looking for his cooler??

So what is a "deer rifle?"' Black powder, single shot, bolt action, lever action, or semi auto?

Was he protecting his property, his living, or just himself? Was he threatening, friendly, was the light in your in your eyes? Could he have been shining the light to help you see where you were walking?

You may not know this, a majority of boats have a firearm on board, please don't visit that ramp in duck season, you might faint.

As for kids being there, what a great opportunity to explain what the second amendment and Texas law is all about.

Personally, I would buy the guy a taco and a cup of coffee. Hope the word gets out, the local thieves will avoid this place, average boat has $1K stuff that be grabbed quickly.

How many of you carry on your boat?

If you were a thief and you saw a man with a gun walking around a few boats you wanted to rob, wouldn't it make you think twice. That guy probably did a better job of security that morning than any Wal-Mart rent a cop ever could. Shoot I might have felt comfortable even leaving a yeti in the boat while iI ran in for bait.
