I went to Marker 37 yesterday morning & didn't get any bites on Shrimp or Mullet but I didn't get discouraged. I headed out first thing this morning loaded with live & dead shrimp & a bunch of artificial lures. The water was glassy & the wind was calm. There was a lot of action at first but the action wouldn't bite anything I threw at them. Plastics, too waters, live & dead bait- these fish didn't want any of it. That brings me to the point where I have to ask the experts on here-

1. One type of fish would pop the surface of the water sort of how a nice sized Large Mouth Bass would. What kind of fish could this be?

2. The other fish traveled in schools of maybe 20-50 with their tails in the air. They were nicely sized but they didn't have a black dot so I knew they were not reds. Either way, they were feeding but it didn't matter what I threw into the school, they didn't hit it. What kind of fish could these be?

My buddy is coming tomorrow. I'm taking him out. Today & yesterday were my trial runs. I don't understand how nothing was biting from like 6:30-noon today. Even at Packery the water looked beautiful but no one was catching a thing.

Any advice for tomorrow?

The fish breaking the surface were probably mullet and the fish tailing/schooling without dot probably black drum.

The fish busting are lady fish and the fish with no spots are either sheepies or blackdrum.

I've had noticed the same pattern in the past two trips I've made, I think its during the best bite due to moon rise and moon over head during new moon. Plan your trip's accordingly and try anticipating those events to maximize your catch!

If your fishing in the stained brown tide water I suggest a louder topwater like a she dog or she pup if its calm. The megaphone helps. I also use soft plastics under mauler's or cajun thunder's (the smaller cigar shaped one) for an extra slashing sound while retriving. If it gets real calm put glass rattle inserts to put in your soft plastics- I use mostly bass assasin rat tail's and die dappers.

I don't know what a large mouth bass does but if it's a fish looking like its breathing air it's mullet and if your sure the school you saw were feeding fish and they aren't hitting the shrimp I'd say they were mullet also, coz feeding black drum will hit pretty much anything.
