spinning for me as well. ive tried to learn how to use a baitcast but never could quite get it right. that and spinning reels are simple. i do have a couple conventionals for offshore but think ive only used them once or twice.

Spinners for me.

I can cast with more accuracy but it's probably due to years of using them. Also I am right handed and don't mind reeling with my left hand this puts my strong arm fighting the fish and gives me more leverage.

Good question. Prefer spinner in bay throwing lighter lures. Being right handed, I hold a baitcaster in left hand and reel with right. Just opposite with spinner. Since rod is in my right hand with a spinner, I have more control over the lure and can impart better action. Switch to baitcast with heavier top water lures.

Went to left hand reel bait casters years ago = no hand switching necessary. I have never mastered the finger release on a spinning reel, but I can cast the devil out of a bait caster. Hardly ever have backlash anymore.

Tyler, I use both but I prefer spinners much easier to handle.

spinner for most species

left-handed baitcaster for those spooler type fish like macks and big uglies (I can't get used to switching hands to crank em, so I go lefty with my baitcaster)

Taught myself how to use a left-hand-retrieve baitcaster at 16 and continue to use one today at age 55. So, familiarity would probably be my primary reason for using baitcasters in the bay with, for me, greater accuracy, power and sensitivity playing some part as well.

you know me Tyler, I have piles and stacks of both.....depends on what I'm doing....throwing light lures into the wind, then spinning.....drifting in the boat, then it better dang well be a conventional.....when you're drifting with the wind on a normal day, you'll wear yourself out with an eggbeater just trying to keep up with the lure, let alone work it....my 7:1 ratio Curado makes it a heck of lot more enjoyable....wins that competition hands down....

surf trout fishing is really the hard one to call on that; depends on the day....again, when the wind is blowing and you toss that toppie out there, those eggbeaters have a hard time keeping up with a surfing lure.....conventional wins that MOST of the time, however there is no backlashing, which can be a pain if you switch lures, the wind changes, or you walk and cast a different direction....

Left handed bait caster. Abu 6501 and 5601 soaking bait for small stuff off the beach or in the bay. Throw a spoon or something with them flounder rig.
Right hand No level wind for the long Surf rods Akios 656 and 666w.
I got a couple of Penn Battles too 4 and 6000 for the kids and my wife.

See what that brings up.

Spinner mostly for me but in the past few weeks I have taken off the braid and put back mono. I just don't like the feel of the stuff any longer for some reason and I hate those dang wind knots. if you get a good one it time to get the pocket knife out. Now I need to do a little more research on some of the new mono lines and try them.

I use a right hand revo inshore for soft plastic and mirror lures. Left hand revo inshore with mono for topwater. I guess I am just used to them, I prefer throwing straight into wind, then work lure back with current and wind. I don't switch hands with either reel. Very good control and easy to hold bait caster. Make full cast and it will not backlash as much. Can't wait for the surf trout to start blasting my Super spooks! Should be any day now!

I prefer spinning equipment for everything! I should sell my baitcasters and levelwinds...don't use em anymore.
