Hi,

I drove from Austin to BHP Thursday morning and got there little before 4am, decided to take a quick nap. I was awoke by the noise from the back of my truck and opened the door. A guy was pulling fishing rods off my locked rod holder. He ran away with 2 of my new casting rods with brand new reels to the white truck parked next to me. I didn't have my glasses on, but I jumped into the back of their truck and pulled out 2 rods before they backed out and speed away. That's when I realize those were someone else's rods. I reported to the lady at the pier and was told to make a police report.

I found out later the cable lock on my rod holder was cut off by a cable cutter. It's definitely a thief that has done this before.

I want fellow fishermen to be aware of this incident. In the mean time, I will have to spend money to replace my favorite rods. One rod is Kistler Helium casting rod pair with Abu Garcia revo 60 reel, second rod is a custom Jawbreaker casting rod with Abu Garcia revo nacl 60 reel.

Thanks,

Derek Lin

Sounds like a white pickup needs some custom .357 bullet holes in the windshield. Im also sorry that this was your first post in this site. Hope you get your gear back and it doesn't completely ruin your trip.

Thank you.

I normally read posts on here.
I heard others got stuff stolen or broken into in the past, but I never expect it will happen to me since I fish a few times down there a year. I guess locks and park under the lights will not deter thief if they really want it.

Anyway, I was hoping for a good day of fishing, but left side of pier was full of bonnethead shark and right side was full of hardheads. And only fish I want was a big pompano that got away with bent hook.

Hopefully I will have better luck next trip in few weeks

Derek

What did the guy look like? Anything unique about the truck? Paint, collision damage, exhaust noise, stickers? Ford? Chevy?

I feel like hunting when I come down in two weeks. . Wink

I was in such a hurry jumping out of truck and I didn't wear my glasses.

All I can say its an old truck without a solid gate, sort of a wire gate in the back of truck. It has rusts inside the bed of truck and no platic molding. I am guessing its a Ford truck base on that. It can be a Chevy. Hey, I wasn't thinking when I leap into the side of his truck to pull out two rods. Who knows what will happen if I stay inside his truck while they speed away. I may get my rods back, or I get hurt.

Anyway, I just want to report a thief so people can be aware of them

Sorry to hear......
I was planning on going there tomorrow morning instead of PINS due to the heavy weed action.
Just got to make sure I don't leave anything in back of my truck.

Damn! Feel bad for you. I have a roll and lock cover on the back if my truck. Not totally safe; nothing is if they really want stuff, but stuff is hidden and out of sight out of mind.

I had an avet sx and okuma cedros taken from jp luby on Monday. All it took them was me being away from my truck for 5 minutes. Old maroon Chevy is the only glimpse I got from them

Go figure I comment on this and then last night I had one of my rods taken from the cab of my truck. They got away with a 200$ setup. At least they weren't thorough. I had my costas, fly rod, and tackle bag in the back seat covered up. I came outside and all they took was the rod and reel I'm guessing they never checked the back seat. @#%$#&@&@&#!!!!!!!!!!!!

A thief is a POS themselves... but they're not just stockpiling this equipment. It's ending up somewhere. either at pawn shops or being sold online. I'd guess the same group of trash is going around at multiple spots in corpus looking for things to steal.

here is the texas code on protecting your property.

That's what gets me about Corpus. Here in Austin, if there is a high crime area they cover the place with live cams. Works well too.

Heck, most of the the serious crime downtown is spotted as it occurs and cops are directed to the criminals before they even leave. ENTIRE city blocks in the bar district can be seen from just about any angle.

In CC, it's pretty much "Tough. Deal with it" Confused

Did the cops show up and take a report. If so, did you make sure they were really writing the report down because they are good about just drawing little pictures and scribbling. There used to be great honor and honesty among fishermen and their goods. No one ever messed with your boat or anything in the back of your truck. Nowadays you have if you are going to sleep in your vehicle or even in a tent you have to have a weapon at your fingertips. Have a plan be prepared. Sorry about your gear man. IMS
