I worked all day Saturday and decided to hit the sand with my TSR team and try to rack up some points! Driving was off and on even at low tide.... Fresh weed rolling in the entire length of the beach with the exception of the last 1/4 mile!
Met ET at Mansfield around 6:15 and he already had his baits in the water so I followed suit! It wasn't long before we had our first Run, and that would set the tone for a LONG NIGHT! The action was NON STOP from around 9:00-3:30! Had several runs with no hook ups until I broke the ice with a 55" sharpnose!
We had just finished up our logging and tagging and I was catching a breather when my 6/0 on my custom &(un-christened) 1053 Southern Customs
started SCREAMING like I've never heard her scream before! I high jumped up on the rack and the fight was on! Took about 30 minutes to to get her on the sand! It was my PB! 7'4 1/2" Sandbar....
Swam off strong...
Again, we just finished our CPR process when Rickys 80w starts dancing.... By the time he gets up the rack to his rod she is running hard! This was a wild fight.... At about 45 minutes in we are speculating what it is and my guess was a 8'+ Bull because this fish had some stupid power! An hour fifteen minutes into it we are starting to wonder what the hell is going on because Ricky would gain some line and then she would run about 30 yards.... Back and forth, back and forth! Finally Jonathan gets some HUGE huevos on him and decides to take the yak into the channel and follow the line and see if he can pull the shark up and free it up! Well he goes out there and gets her moving in the right direction! We get her up to the beach and see what had happened! Ricky's double J drop had the hook that was in the mouth completely bent out and the other was buried deep into the back 1/3 of her body! I've never been that dissapointed to see a 7'+ shark! She went 7'4" EVEN! (Got him by 1/2 an inch)
Jonathan got a nice Sandbar shortly after, I really can't remember the size! Was a mismatch with his 80w....
All in all it was a great trip! We missed twice as many as we caught including a shark that was probably bigger than both of the two big sandbars! This was my first trip back since the "hook" incident! The wife was a little apprehensive about letting me go but it all worked out! It was great to be back out there! We scored a total of 110 points this weekend for TSR!!! Team Reel Smokers are gunnin for that #1 spot!
Forgot to mention.... My sandbar was previously tagged and the tag number was 1666! _________________

ACTUALLY we have just learned that the "sharpnose" is actually more than likely a finetooth...... Thoughts?!?! _________________
