Black Drum or Big Ugly...same fish, right? I think if everyone would stop calling 'Black Drum BIG UGLYS, more people would eat them!! _________________ FishLady

| Normally the ones over 30" are called the big uglys, therefore you shouldn't be eating them anyways |

Yup, that's my take. They don't start gettin' ugly till they start gettin' big! _________________ "I'm telling you, those Reds are in there THICK! |

And, slot limit is 14-30"
With 1 over 52"
But, the bigger ones have some awful looking worms that won't hurt you.
And, better let the big ones go so they can continue to breed _________________

| Yep, the really big ones can have sores on them and if you really want to get grossed out look in their mouth ( same with bull reds ) and many times you'll find a parasite that looks like a small albino VW with lots of legs on it. Imagine a monster rolly polly or pill bug etc. |

Big Ugly = oversized drum. A slot/black drum would be a Medium ugly
Puppy drum = small ugly???

A nice filet off a 18-20 inched is mighty fine in my book. Truth is many good restaurants serve BD. My only problem is I have yet to find a "sporty" way to catch them. Serving up dead shrimp on the bottom just seems like something a Rockport guide would do.... _________________ Wish I Were in Baffin |

x3. We got into a school out East fall of 2012 and the fly fishers cleaned up nicely. My oldest son caught a bunch on flies, the rest of us were catching on various Gulp baits. We only kept middle slot fish 18-22 or so, probably caught well over 100 between us all over 2 days. Kids even got bored catching them. _________________ JJ |

x4 drum are far more challenging than redfish on a fly and if you want something really sporty get a sheepshead on the fly Texas permit for sure ! _________________ EAT,SLEEP,BREATHE,FISHING |
